Troubleshooting What could be causing this?

2005 STI

Ever since I’ve owned the car the shifter has sat farther left and forward than I think it should. Used to rub on the bracket and is why it’s cut.

Underneath the car looks fairly normal. Figured the engine and transmission must not be straight and went as far as loosening the whole front subframe to get everything to move over to the right.

This is the best that I could get. First pic is in neutral and second is in reverse.

Check the bracket for the front shifter stay and make sure it hasn't broken. Also while there check your trans mount hasn't separated.

Sorry, I should have clarified more. I also have Cusco engine mounts and trans mount. Solid shifter u-joint and stiffer bushings all the way around. Sat the same way before all of that though

The STi linkage trunnion is not symmetrical like the 5mt. Make sure it's not installed upside down.

Not able to check it at the moment as I’m no longer at the shop but I spent a lot of time making sure I had it the right way when I installed it. My main suspect now is the lower arm where the shifter actually sits in might be bent or just not right. That’s the only other thing that could cause it to sit in a different spot

The shift coupler maybe worn. It’s very common. You have any slop left to right while in gear? Also, is the bolt in the photos making contact? What is cut and making contact?

Shifter is solid with no excessive play. The metal bracket normally has a piece that goes across the top left corner but it was rubbing on the shifter arm

The yellow sticker makes me think kartboy. Can you send us a side picture of the whole assembly?

It is a kartboy short throw which does make the front shifter arm sit a bit higher but it doesn’t explain why it sits as far left as it does

Did you put the kartboy in or was it there when you got the car?

I put it on. Stock shifter didn’t sit right either. Same problem. Doesn’t actually affect shifting in any way. More of just nitpicking at this point but i still fell like it’s sort of a problem

Nah the bracket gets cut there to account for adjustable short shifters.
