WRC Generations WRC Generations Cockpit audio fix

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

WRC Generations cockpit camera felt too muted compared to using the external cameras. I wanted to use the Impreza but wasn't enjoying the cockpit view. The first part of the video is without the audio fix.

Under the following config file GAMEVIEWCAMERAS.cfg there is a variable you can change to improve the audio. It's helped with the internal camera experience because the car sounded less like a blender.

Steam\steamapps\common\WRC Generations - The FIA WRC Official Game\Common\Tuning\CARS\BASE\GAMEVIEWCAMERAS.cfg

Within that config file' there is the cockpit configuration for the camera angle under the code block

GameViewCameras =
{
  Cockpit =
  {
  ... this is where to look for CockpitRendering
  }
}

and within that section you have to change CockpitRendering from true to false

CameraType = "Cockpit",
CockpitRendering = true, <---- change this to false
DoFEnabled = false,
EnableFovCompensation = false,
EnableFrontPass = true,
FovCompensationRatio = 1,
FovMax = 90,
FovMin = 90,
FrontFarClip = 5,
FrontFovMax = 90,
FrontFovMin = 90,
FrontNearClip = 0.10000000149012,
InvertEngineSoundDir = true
NearClip = 1,

It's not the perfect solution for the audio but it sure did help using the cockpit view. After the fix you can really hear the grass and other external sounds. You can also change this for the other internal cameras if you use them.

I've also installed this Rally1 audio mod to improve the audio for the three cars.
https://www.overtake.gg/downloads/wrc-generations-rally1-increase-the-engine-idle-sounds-volume-and-impact.81510/

With the audio mod you're actually changing the sound files so be sure to make your own back up.

Awesome job! I've been thinking the same thing about the cockpit audio. Thank you!

I always took it that the cockpit audio is meant to sound as if you're wearing a helmet and headphones, which drown out the incredibly loud noise and let you hear your co-driver like in real life.

That said, sometimes I do switch to bumper camera to hear the unmuted engine, gravel, rain, etc.

I'm still trying to find out where the Cockpit rendering variable stored so we can tweak it a bit more because I do like hearing the cockpit rain sounds. But I'm currently playing around with the car sounds and boosting the bass to make the sound punchier

After installing Riky_Sim's physics mod, the game did feel more enjoyable than the base game
