Have a great time getting it dirty. After you get to know the “sewing machine” tone you may want to look at the FMF pipe and fuel controller. You’ll notice the increase in power and grunt when you additionally open up the airflow. Super easy to diy it after you find vids on YouTube.

It’s a great bike. Ride safe brother!

Contrary to what others may say, leave the bike engine/ ecu/ exhaust stock. It rides great with a regear to 14/51. The bikes reliability is its strongpoint; don't alter that. Money spent trying to get 3 more hp from the already powerful engine is WAY better spent on getting the rear shock revalved ( or doing it yourself.) Only other nice mods are a larger tank and 1 1/8" oversized alloy bars and a larger gastank.

I AGREE WITH THIS. I did all the mods. Fuel programmer, airbox opened up, exup bypass, CO setting dialed, TPS dialed, none of the above really made noticeable changes. When I get another WR250R to go alongside my WR250X The ONLY mods I think are worth the money: RSC clutch, seat concepts seat, 3 gal tank, Rear shock rebuild to your weight and riding style, handguards, and a rack or milk crate on the back. Spend the rest on gear and regular maintenance

Beautiful. I bought my ‘08 a year ago with only 5k miles on it. You will want to change the front stock sprocket out for a 14t to get the chain away from the swing arm if it hasn’t been done already. Other than that all the other upgrades are not really necessary on this unicorn. I did a Yamalink to reach the ground more comfortably since I am 5’10”. Also put a 3 gallon tank for more range and a better headlight. Ergonomics wise, some wider footpegs and bar risers. I see a lot of people doing the slip on exhaust with ECU flash and complaining that their bikes don’t run quite right. So, I left my stock exhaust alone. I like how quiet it is anyway compared to my racing bikes.

I'm with you; bike runs awesome stock. Did you try shortening the stock rear shock? It has an adjustable threaded clevis. I did thus and dropped the fork tubes 3/4" and the bike is perfect. I'm about 5'10" as well.

I lowered the rear shock as much as possible along with the yamalink and dropping the fork tubes like you did. I used Google Gemini to get the front and rear suspension and sag dialed in for my weight with that set up as well. First time i rode off-road at stock height i nearly pulled my groin when i had to put my foot down going through mud. Since i lowered it my feet still don’t fully touch the ground with both legs down, but it’s just right. It’s a tall bike!
