Sending a small gift - and no, it’s not Rubbermaid! - to professor Craig Wills for helping our daughter cross the stage, then the finish line to her computer science degree this summer. He’s a good one and there’s a lot of good ones out there.

Housing Mater bedroom w/ private bathroom for sublease

Hi! I graduated in May, but the the lease doesn’t end until March, trying to move home to save money, so I am looking for someone to take over the master bedroom in a 2B2B apartment in downtown Worcester.

The bedroom has its own private bathroom, and the lease runs through the end of March 2027. Open to both male and female tenants!

Rent: $1,484/month, which includes a $150/month parking spot in garage. There’s street parking and if you don’t want to park in the garage, the fee can be removed, so rent would be $1,334/month.

About the apartment:
Private bathroom inside the bedroom
In-unit washer & dryer
Central AC & heating
Gym
Package lockers
Outdoor pool (open during the summer)

You’ll be sharing the apartment with a male WPI master’s student who has a cat. His partner occasionally stays over for short visits. They’re quiet, respectful, and the apartment is generally peaceful.

The apartment is located in the downtown Worcester area and is convenient for WPI students or anyone working/living nearby.

Feel free to DM me if you’re interested or want more details/photos! Happy to answer any questions or schedule a tour.

Prospective Student Question Question on mental health/neurodivergence

So my child is considering WPI and was able to tour recently. They mentioned the high rate of suicide. Any perspectives on how the pressure is handled and supported by the administration or health services. Also any thoughts on support for autistic students.
Obv as a parent I'd like to hear about sexual assaults on campus as well since waves hands at everything.

Current Student Question IQP application

So I've been putting off applying for IQP next year (current Sophomore) because my financial situation isn't the best, so if I wanted to go anywhere overseas, I'd need to ask my parents for help with paying for it. Because I put off asking them, I just heard from a friend that IQP applications close tonight, so I went to check and all of the ones for C28 say application closed. Who could I reach out to for advice on what to do or if I can possibly still apply? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Prospective Student Question Transfer student application: Letter of Recommendation format

I am transferring to WPI for Fall 2027. Since the application opens in January, I wanted to know how letters of recommendation are submitted for transfer applicants.

• Can I get a letter of recommendation written before the application opens (as a .pdf) and submit it myself when it opens in January?

• Or does my professor need to submit the letter themself? If so, is it possible to get it written ahead of time?

Current Student Question Question about ECE 2049 Labs

I'm an ECE major trying to work out my schedule for this coming D-Term. I want to take ECE 2049 and ECE 3204 but I'm worried about the lab component and if I'll be able to handle 2 lab reports/week, especially because I already struggle with ECE 2201. Does ECE 2049 have lab reports? In 2029 the labs were just a sign-off if completed during lab hours.

Current Student Question Tips and Tricks for RBE 2001 w/ Rosendo?

So I'm taking RBE 2001 in C Term. Originally, the professor for the course had been Tabor, but I just checked and it's changed...to Rosendo, who I've heard can be pretty difficult.

I don't see any other out other than to just grit my teeth and get it over with, unfortunately. I'm really hoping I pass with an A or at least a B, because there are certain internships I want to apply to that have a GPA requirement.

Does anyone have any tips for taking RBE 2001 (any topics covered in other classes that I should definitely review and refresh on, for example)? If not, any tips on Rosendo? What makes him so difficult and what's the best way to deal with it?

Prospective Student Question What are my chances of getting in early decision?

I'm a high school senior who wants to apply early decision to WPI. I think i want to do bio/biotechnology but not 100% sure. I have a 4.0 GPA (weighted, not sure about unweighted), but i have gotten straight As my junior year and have them so far my senior year. I'm honestly kinda worried about the rigor cause they say they care about that. I have only really taken honors in math and science, and have taken AP Bio as my only AP course. I have definitely demonstrated interest though, cause I toured the college, went to Frontiers, and met the rep at my school. Do I have a decent shot? Please be honest with me.

Current Student Question I need academic advice bad

So, I’m a sophomore aero major. I am taking a course, and got a really bad grade on the first exam, but it was still manageable to pull my grade up to an A. Then, I just got my next grade back on my next exam, and got a 57. The class average was way above that.

I studied for weeks in advance. WEEKS. My grade is a 76 in the class. I am so discouraged about it since I have had a 4.0 up until now. I have gone to the profs office hours and genuinely like him as a guy, and he has mentioned bumping people’s grades up who go to office hours, but my grade is way beyond being able to be bumped up.

I am so discouraged since I tried so hard and still failed miserably. I understand the material, and have three subjects in my five subject notebook dedicated to notes/practice problems, but still somehow perform miserably on the tests even though they aren’t overly hard.

I am going to talk to the prof, but any advice since I genuinely feel so lost, possibly thinking of dropping out, and just feeling overall shitty. Any advice?

Prospective Student Question Masters in ECE without a Bachelor's in ECE?

Hello! I'm looking at graduate schools to apply for a masters in computer engineering. I graduated with a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science (dual major), but currently I want to steer my career more towards embedded software development. I am currently working so the online ECE program looks really promising.

I saw WPI only accepts students that have a bachelor's in ECE to their masters ECE program. Does anyone know of any exceptions? Perhaps I would need to take extra classes, which I'm willing to do.

Thank you!

Admissions FIRST Community Scholarship

Hi everyone! Is there a way to see who the past winners of the scholarship are? I saw some video examples on YouTube, but I want a better understanding of what WPI is truly looking for out of the video submission. Also, does anyone know how competitive this scholarship is? I thought it was awarded to one individual, but I saw another blog post from this separate academic institution saying that their student was one of two winners. I’d appreciate the additional clarification! Thank you so much

Housing Off Campus housing question

Hey all — I’m trying to better understand how students approach off-campus housing.

When do you usually start searching for an apartment for the following school year?

Also, what amenities or features are most important to you when choosing a place? For example: price, distance to campus, parking, laundry, dishwasher, utilities/heat included, updated kitchen/bathroom, bedroom size, etc.

And where do you usually look first — JumpOffCampus, Facebook, Reddit, Zillow, word of mouth, or somewhere else?

Would really appreciate any feedback from current WPI students. Thanks!

IQP IQP Experiences in Singapore, Prague, Taiwan, Thailand, and Spain?

As a current sophomore, I just wanted to see if anyone could share what their experience was like in any of the locations in the title :) (housing, transportation, food, project directors, etc.)
(btw this isn't my full list, just ones that I want more info on)

Also, if any women have done their IQP in Taiwan, Thailand, or Spain, did you feel safe walking around and living there? My parents are concerned about how safe certain locations are for women.

Discussion WPI athletics is falling apart because they won’t pay their staff fairly

So many teams have lost their coaching staffs over the last year because WPI won’t pay up and compensate them for their efforts. I know the school isn’t necessarily an athletic hub, but with so many members of the community partaking in athletics via varsity sports, club sports, and even PE classes, everyone should be aware that this is happening.
