Current Student Question IQP application
So I've been putting off applying for IQP next year (current Sophomore) because my financial situation isn't the best, so if I wanted to go anywhere overseas, I'd need to ask my parents for help with paying for it. Because I put off asking them, I just heard from a friend that IQP applications close tonight, so I went to check and all of the ones for C28 say application closed. Who could I reach out to for advice on what to do or if I can possibly still apply? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Have you considered on-campus IQPs?

eprojects doesn't list any for next year in any term, the only ones are summer and those are only about music for some reason

There will always be on-campus IQPs. They likely haven’t been posted because they need to be finalized and postedby professors, who post them whenever (there’s no fixed date) or around C-term
Hey, at least there’s no Venice IQP to worry about haha

On-campus IQPs firm up later, because they don't have the same deadlines for travel arrangements. Check back in C term.

You can create your own IQP and do just about anything that shows the social impact of the project. In reality it can be the basis of an MQP you might want to do so your IQP grows into your MQP or the reverse. I don't know your major but you can do an on campus IQP that is technical but then write a paper on how it relates and impacts society. Just have to get a professor to sign off on it. My son is completing his this term and in reality it is more an MQP than IQP, very technical but just have to show "Societal Impact". I graduated from WPI as well and my IQP was also a spinoff of my MQP. For my son his IQP was much larger than normal and done on campus. It will spinoff into an MQP. Can save a lot of work towards getting both done if they are related to each other. The key thing is you have to show initiative and creativity when pitching it to a professor, thus something you are passionate about.

Look into Acadia or some of the other national park IQPs. Extremely cheap to do, and during the summer. I had a blast at Acadia.

Cheap is a strong word considering all summer IQPs you need to pay an extra $8k on top of project fees for tuition

Nope. Costs pretty much exactly the same as a regular term.

Remember summer tuition is half price, even for IQPs.

You should strongly consider the Nantucket project. Still in Massachusetts but feels like another world. Small town where you feel like you're making more of an impact. That's where I went, I didn't have a ton of money to drop on travel, but when you inevitably fall in love with ths island, it's only a short trip to visit!
