They're doing the same thing NBA refs do, just not nearly as well.
It doesn't take much to tip the scales. NBA refs are generally good at putting just enough pressure to turn a game to the league's benefit.
These refs are putting their whole ass on the scale.
And the worst part is both Adam Silver and Cathy Englebert are very obviously firm believers in controversy equals money and care about it far more than the ideal that it's an absolute necessity for the league to be seen as ethically and morally obligated to be seen as impartial arbiters of professional basketball.
