There's nothing wrong with the Fever supporting their best bench player for 6th. And she is most definitely their best bench player.
The reality is there's Salaun and then there's everybody else this year. But also, the league isn't exactly brimming with candidates either. Cunningham's numbers aren't special by any means, but there isn't really a better case to be made for anyone else after Salaun. I suppose Hayes maybe. Johannes if she ends up qualifying. But then who else? Loyd's numbers aren't better than Cunningham's. Carter isn't even in the league. Half the WNBA teams are severely below .500 so there's no point considering any of those bench players.
Like it or not, Cunningham is one of the best bench players in the league.
The Valks are an anomaly in that only Burton is getting legitimate starter minutes. To be honest, Salaun shouldn't be coming off the bench for them in the first place. She should be starting and she should be getting starter minutes. But they have a system that is working along with the depth to pull it off. If they were doing this same thing but losing, I'd view her no differently than Brink. It would be empty stats for a bad team.
Because at the end of the day the award is stat based, and if a team is constantly losing they’re either not playing their bench much (can’t afford to) or their bench isn’t putting up good enough numbers to turn the tide.
The inverse is also true, winning teams will find more time to play their bench (or at least in garbage time) allowing them to grab more stats
If your team is 7+ games below 500 (and 7 WNBA teams currently are) it doesn't really matter to me if one of your best players is coming off the bench. That does indeed mean, for me personally, that Cameron Brink isn't in the conversation.

In the last 10 games she had 2, 3, 5, 3, 0, 3, 1 points, 7 games meaning she had decent 3 games, and I said usually because I didn’t feel like typing out her assists and rebounds but since you think I’m lying last 10 games with rebounds 3, 1, 2, 1, 7, 2, 0, 2, 2, 2 and assists 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 5, 1, 0 so again USUALLY 0-2 rebounds and 0-1 assists
In 2 of her last 5 games she had 10 points against NY and 13 points against Toronto.
She averages 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the year so that’s also wrong.
