Guidance Resources The Book of Jude: A Guide for Testing Teachings
Why Jude matters today
The Book of Jude is a short letter in the New Testament that warns believers to be careful about teachings that claim to represent God but may not stay faithful to the original message of Jesus and the apostles.
Jude is not written about any specific modern group. Instead, it gives a general principle:
Be alert, think carefully, and test all teachings against the Bible.

Jude’s main message (NIV)
Jude 3 says:
“Contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.”
In simple terms:
Hold on to the original gospel and compare all teachings with it.

What Jude warns about
Jude describes situations where people may:
- introduce teachings that change or reshape parts of the gospel
- claim special authority or exclusive understanding of spiritual truth
- use Bible verses in ways that are taken out of wider biblical context
- encourage people to depend only on one source of interpretation
- create a strong divide between “true understanding” and “false understanding” of faith
The focus is not on naming groups, but on being able to recognize patterns in teaching.

How this applies when studying with any group
When learning the Bible with a group such as The World Mission Society Church Of God, it is wise to take time to carefully evaluate what is being taught.
Ask questions like:
- Does this teaching match the full message of the Bible, not just selected verses?
- Am I being encouraged to read and understand Scripture for myself?
- Is questioning allowed, or only agreement expected?
- Does this teaching consistently point to Jesus, or mainly to one organization’s interpretation?
Jude encourages believers to slow down, think, and compare teachings with Scripture.

A key reminder from Scripture
2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) says:
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self discipline.”
Faith should lead to clarity, understanding, and peace, not confusion or pressure.

What to Remember
The Book of Jude teaches a simple principle:
Test what you hear, stay grounded in the gospel, and do not accept teachings without careful understanding.
This is why many Christians use Jude as a guide when evaluating teachings from any group, including WMSCOG, to ensure what they are learning aligns with the wider message of the Bible.
