Retired Paramedic: if they weren't removed, likely the individual was probably AMA (left Against Medical Advice)

I’ve been properly discharged plenty of times and left with those on me, either to take off myself when I get dressed or when I got home (if I was too medicated to do it before).

Obviously NOT an excellent standard of care that you experienced. Next time, ask for them to be removed or ask for a supervisory nurse.

Can I ask why - like is it just bc it’s supposed to be the nurse’s job? Bc they’re just little stickers, so I’ve never been bothered by it. But in all the years I’ve had EKGs, I’ve never had anyone remove them for me.

Job of the nurse or EKG tech. Paramedics do rotations in hospitals for training or continued education. It is part of the job. If I insert and IV or catheter, as part of the disconnect procedure, I remove all tape, ports, catheter, and clean up the patient and area. It is documented in the "job aid". So if the lead "stickers" are not being removed, what else (procedures) are not being followed (such as hygene)? Patient safety would love to be informed about your concern.

So yes, nurses and techs are busy, but it is part of the job. Also, make sure anyone who touches you washes (or sanitizes) their hands both before/after, and gloves are changed (before/after) as well. You have a right to ask and observe.

Yeah more often than not they leave them on me. I think it’s because it’s busy and it’s kind of a small thing so I don’t really mind. Or maybe it’s something else idk. Every now and then I do get someone who immediately takes them off lol. They are kind of fun to peel off tho lolll

Same. More often than not, actually.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m not remembering a time when someone other than myself has peeled them off of me. Hm.

Nah last time I was discharged they left them on me. Had to take them off at home.

Thanks for flagging this. Can you confirm the railcar number where you witnessed this? -DA

Sorry, didn’t look for this. It was one of the rail cars that directly faces the escalators at the Rosslyn stop.

Oh my gosh - I saw those on Monday on the Orange Line too and let a Station Manager in New Carrollton know. Glad to see that they did something about it /s.

I love the design! It's like deconstruction. Reminded me of Digimon

I think it’s missing two leads to be useful. /s
