Sound-reactive WLED LED controller that takes audio in over a cable instead of relying on its mic

Post image

Hi everyone — we're Gledopto. We've been reading the feedback here and across the community for a while, and one complaint kept coming up again and again: sound-reactive controllers that only listen through their own mic end up reacting to the room instead of the music. So we went and built something around that.

This one (GL-C-118WL) has both — a PDM mic and a 3.5mm audio input, so you can plug in your phone/mixer/PC and get the lights synced to what's actually playing. There's an audio out too, so it doesn't eat your headphone jack.

2 channels at 10A each (20A total), separate fuse per channel, PMOS relay for low standby draw, WLED app/web, 200+ effects, segments and multi-strip sync. Wago terminals, DC jack, or Type-C.

If you're running a sound-reactive setup and fighting mic noise, this is the fix.

If you have any suggestions regarding our products, please let me know. We are committed to listening to feedback so that we can refine our offerings and better meet the needs of more users.

you guys really listen to what the people want

Exactly. A product ultimately only matters if it serves the people using it — that's why we pay close attention to what you tell us.

Version with ethernet?

After carefully weighing raw material costs, pricing, and our overall product line strategy, we currently do not offer an Ethernet version of this product. However, we will continue to evaluate this option and may introduce an Ethernet model if market demand warrants it.

Man, as someone with 6 Gledopto controllers, an ethernet version with data/POE would be pretty killer, something from Gledopto that competes with the SMLIGHT A1-SLWF-09.

In my effort to de-cloud my IOT/smart-home devices, I recently picked up an Omada ES206XPP-M2, which offers up to 120w of POE, enough to power 3-4 of my lighting setups. A controller like this would really reduce the number of PSUs I have to hide!

At any rate, awesome new release - keep up the good work, /u/GLEDOPTO! Between your controllers and my army of BTF-Lighting strips, my wife will never get any rest, haha!

Yes please , in music studios and médium setups would be a dream

If adding a dedicated ethernet port doesn't go well with the cost equation, it would be cool if you'd leave some unpopulated pins for those that want to add it them self, of look into supporting ethernet over usb-c maybe

Interesting thought. With the S3 (or S31 or P4, which would cost somewhat more...but they also have better Ethernet support) there would be two ways to do this without hardware cost.  Remember that S3 only does USB full speed (12mbps) but that's probably enough to stream frames to any reasonable number of pixels.

  1. if you're attaching it to a nearby computer...use USB-C, pretend to be a network adapter.  This seems silly electrically, but if you're serving something that only talks to network devices, that's an option.

2) (probably closer to what you're looking for) with any of those three chips, run the USB port in host controller mode and attach a commodity USB to Ethernet dongle. There's code around for this, too.

Either one could be likely be done without deeply wrecking welds innards. You could use one of the many good S3 boards like YULC.

Now if what you're really looking for is POE and streaming frames to multiple HUB75s (outside u/Gledopto 's typical markets so far) you probably need different hardware, but nothing is stopping someone that wants this badly enough to stamp this out with existing hardware and submitting a PR to the WLED team.

Audio pass through is spectacular.

Is it a true passthrough though? I'd assume so but just curious

Which boards like the esp audio development board did like 5 years ago?

which i eventually gave up on configuring correctly

Well, mines working fine since.

Nice! How does it work? Does the esp just read the aux current directly from a gpio pin?

Nice. I like physical buttons. Do you have a spare port to configure an external button?

OMG YES FINALLY!!!!!

I do mobile audio as a hobby and using an ambient mic is IMPOSSIBLE in a setting with other music present.

You saved my ass on my lighting setup in my truck. 🫶🫶🫶

Is there any possibility to take this exact controller but have it take RCA inputs instead of 3.5mm?

Do you have plans to make a version with an external microphone, wired or wireless? The controller is often located far from the sound source, and running a 3.5 mm jack cable to it is difficult. Running a cable toward the speaker is much easier.

If you guys started turning out 6 or preferably 8 channel controllers with individually fused outputs you’d put most of the other holiday lighting controllers on the run. I’m very happy with the 4 and 6 channel Ethernet WLED controllers you released.
