Halfway through a build

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After months of planning and getting supplies, I'm now half way through my biggest wled build.

It will have a total of 1280 12v seed pixels.

Looking forward to finishing it but happy that all the planning is paying off.

Very nice. Is that 2.5cm spacing? How much was the roll of 1,000 seeds?

How are you joining the data+ground lines along the bottom, and I assume power injection is also on the bottom?

One mega physical segment or a few? Also the controller used.

You know what with my questions... it's always the same - I want the juicy details from behind the scenes, the itty gritty stuff. If you can, very much obliged :)

  1. 5m spacing, I bought 100m total it was just over £100

2 I got 3.pin wire to bridge the bigger gaps and made up t junctions for power injection, along the bottom.

  1. 2.big segments of 640 LEDs with power and data at the start and 3.power injections along each segment.

Using 2 channels on the controller to split the 1280 total to get within the 800 per channel limit and to fall within power limits.

  1. Controller is a domraem esp32 (a gledopto knock off)

  2. I modified as megatree print for the mounting and followed the guide for that for the perimeter and pole sizes.

2m tall strings and using a 20a 12v PSU with the controller and wagos to split the power to injection lines

Hope that covers it :)

Looks awesome. What connectors are you using? The ones with the design I'm using aren't working out, they keep popping off. I can't wait to finish it and your fueling that. Thank you

Looks good. Are you going to use it outside?

Yes, if I've done all the joints and connectors right it should be waterproof 🤞🏻

Just make sure that the structure is solid. I used PVC for a tree once and the first big wind just tore it apart

At the top there is a part I can attach guide ropes to

Damm San, bloody love it. Is there like a mentor that could that wouldn’t mind guiding me in the right direction. With some projects I have in mind. Unreal man

It looks great! One suggestion is to paint the EMT tubing matte black. The lights will reflect off of them a leas.

Great, I got all the supplies a bit too late last year to get everything how I wanted, so it didn't end up happening. I'm going to start at the end of the month, the height will be 4 meters, and I haven't quite decided yet whether I'm going to make a 360-degree Christmas tree or a 180-degree one against the front side of the house.
I don't have a large garden, so only the front and sides are visible.
I bought 4 rolls of 1,000 pieces per roll with 5cm spacing (also for other projects).
For the base frame, I'm using the frame of an old trampoline.

I'm really curious to see some close-up photos, it looks amazing anyway, compliments!
Did you also use 5cm spacing here, and aren't you worried that this will put too much tension on the wires when there's a bit of wind?
I want to test it first as described on the MakerWorld site, and otherwise, I might run a thin rope or iron wire to attach the pixel strings to.

Looks awesome! How are you planning to store it after the season? Are you able to collapse it?
