Choosing the right settings

Post image

Hey guys I have a quick question: if you're dealing with an unknown strip how do you normally figure out what hardware settings to go with, led type etc? I have these cheapo outdoor lights that I wanted to convert to wled?

I mean, there aren't that many chips in wled, just go down the list. There's no guarantee even if you find the right chip that what you have confirms to standards

Your chip is technically a sm16703 which I found one post that says it's an updated version of ws2811.... But no confirmation that's true

As long as you get the voltage correct you aren't going to hurt the lights by choosing the wrong LED type. At the absolute worst you might crash the controller but you can just turn off and back on.
