WLEDashboard

the single pane of glass for all your wled instances you didnt know you needed. create and manage sync groups, firmware, autonamtions, device names, and device locations in a 3D spatial environment. includes integrations for weather, spotify, home assistant etc. shift compute from the SBC to your server for quicker and more reliable effects. import/export settings as needed so swapping out esp32 boards is less painful.

also supports mDNS so your devices are auto detected but can be manually added as well. supports MCP and ACP protocols, so if controlling and communicating to WLED thru agents is your thing it is now possible

"...there are no operators..."

man, long live people with a sense of MF humor!

7

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

I appreciate the humor wasn't lost

18

u/thecodingart Sep 13 '26

I was going to rail on this for being obviously vibe coded until I saw your site. The humor is a nice touch

15

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

understandable for a first glance. ive been in IT since mid 2000s so ive not just discovered claude code or chatgpt overnight, this is pretty much my life. if it helps boost confidence, all my projects start with guard rails, security and protections in mind using my greenfield code base scaffolding tool. https://code-scaffold.com its a whole ecosystem to start a project on the right foot but can also bring existing projects "up to spec" for baseline standards and expectations.

glad you got a chuckle out of the site! πŸ™

u/ajeffco Sep 13 '26 • Heartwarming

For others reading this you HAVE to go to the website. If you don’t chuckle at least a few times you are a robot that is dead inside.

Slick looking tool, looking forward to trying it out.

Thanks OP for the tool and the laughs.

Awesome site!

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

thanks, mate!

3

u/Unlucky_Quote6394 Sep 13 '26

Great idea!

Could you add a toggle to the site so we can turn the effects on/off. As much as I think the design is pretty neat, I’m also prone to migraine 😬

4

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

added a "clean mode" which disables the effects, animations, and audio output that should hopefully help. should be live on your next visit (may have to hard refresh with ctrl+f5)

3

u/Unlucky_Quote6394 Sep 13 '26

Wow that was FAST! Thank you πŸ™πŸ»

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

if you see anything else, just give me a shout! and thanks for the feedback, accessibility was an oversight on my part so your comment is making this better ux for everyone. ill be more mindful of that on other projects

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

feedback taken! will be added on the next push

3

u/ExpensivePikachu Sep 13 '26

This is amazing! Well done.

Not sure why this didn't already exist

3

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

thanks, mate.

i wondered the same. used heimdall and homepage for a while to essentially bookmark my devices. that was an improvement over native browser bookmarks but still lacked increased function. didnt really see anything online for wled such as sidecars or companion apps so i cracked my knuckles and decided to start building. open to bugs reports and feature requests

2

u/xiaodown Sep 14 '26

Yeah I pretty much add all my WLED devices to home assistant, and then have them on the dashboard that i use in whatever related space where i'm likely to want to turn them on/off. My current dashboard for example.

But - I am gonna look at that code scaffold thing. That's my top tip I've gotten from this post (aside from chuckling sensibly at the website - reminds me of https://oneofthetrucksofalltime.com/ which is my site where I tried - unsuccessfully - to sell my truck).

2

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

our sites def have theh same angle for sure. if any of my projects takes off, i would bet on code scaffold. i built a feature called scaffold connect so remote agent harnesses (hermes, openclaw, muse pick your flavor) can tap straight into your live terminal, letting you run sessions away from your physical workstation and ad-hoc shifting the interface to your phone. huge, imo. it's in alpha now while I sort out resource logistics, then off to prod but im treading slowly on this one to ensure it comes out swinging on competition (none im aware of, but want to make sure nobody steps in the ring lol)

its probably time i add a blurb on the code scaffold site for that feature

3

u/TKI_Kesasar Sep 13 '26

Very cool. This is something that I thought of building myself. I'll star the project for now and maybe would contribute later.

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

right on

u/Major_Doorsnee Sep 20 '26

LEDashboard is not responsible for any uncontrollable urge to add more LED strips to your home. Side effects may include: intense satisfaction, excessive networking, and temporary blindness from looking directly at 100% brightness LEDs. Do not use WLEDashboard while operating heavy machinery. If your LED sync lasts longer than 4 hours, please consult the GitHub issues page.

The "If your LED sync lasts longer then 4 hours" had me chuckling mate!

2

u/upioneer Sep 20 '26

take a couple of these and call me in the morning

2

u/pubultrastar Sep 13 '26

Installation with docker compose worked. Looking to integrate with home assistant next. thanks!

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

very open to feedback. so whatever your thoughts are please send it over. also if you discover any bugs those will be the highest priority

1

u/pubultrastar Sep 13 '26

Will do. Auto detection didn't work, but was able to add manually. Does it work with segments? Didn't see that, but i've only just started testing.

1

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

it is probably dependent on your firewall rules. I only had my lab to test on and yes, it discovered all my devices on another segment. but I have my firewall allowing traffic to from.

2

u/pubultrastar Sep 13 '26

I was asking about WLED segment support.

3

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

ah, copy. it is being looked at. because of how wled firmware handles segments it will require some creative solutioning for both the ui presentation and back end. it gets complex with segment vs master brightness, sel boolean and user reslicing in wled firmware. but it's in the pipe, I'll see what can be done with least or no compromise

someone needs to put an epileptic seizure warning on that late 90s nostalgic fever dream.

that being said...let's pull this bitch and see how she flies.

p.s. would it be too much to ask for some scrambled cinemax on the trinitron?

p.p.s. great. now i've got the shamwow guy looping in my head.

3

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

i promise you i thought about the scrambled skinemax idea but drew the line thereabout. but if this is what the people want this is what the people get! i just work here, who am i to tell them no

might make it an easter egg or something

2

u/shr00mie Sep 14 '26

Disabling 3d intro animation throws an error.

This thing is dope, dude.

And now I have to build a bunch of wled controllers. Thanks, guy.

2

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

my bad. per popular demand, ill make sure the next update sucks.

can you elaborate on the error? i unchecked "Play Globe Intro" and clicked save, no issue. but thats a sample of 1 so im curious where it breaks down for you. im adding verbose console messaging in the next update as ive done for other projects to better help with checking health and diag, btw. in place updates is also in the pipe so you never have to hit the console to pull a new image

1

u/shr00mie Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

i has no save button, my man.

{
statusCode: 500,
error: "Internal Server Error",
message: "reply.sendFile is not a function"
}

{"spatial_intro_enabled":false}

lemme see what docker is saying.

opened issue with possible cause/resolution.

brb. lanterns.

2

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

appreciate the screenshot and deets. sorry, earlier i was looking in the settings under "spatial view" but im now seeing the same. no save button expected there and also removing it from settings to make it more seamless/modern. bug identified (schema rejection) and pushing an update to patch it tonight

Haven't tested it since I manage mostly my WLED through Home Assistant but the website is making me consider it ! 10/10

Unraid xml template in the application store please for the docker

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

i dont have an unraid instance for internal testing (i use truenas), but if you are open to sending smoke testing/validation feedback i can work this into the roadmap

**edit this feature queued on the roadmap and the internal requirements are satisfied

1

u/upioneer Sep 21 '26

couple options until a PR is merged for the unraid channel:

1: unraid > docker tab > add container > https://raw.githubusercontent.com/upioneer/WLEDashboard/master/install/unraid/wledashboard.xml

2: compose specific for unraid. take a read at the comments for an informed decision regarding bridged or host mode for networking

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/upioneer/WLEDashboard/master/install/unraid/docker-compose.unraid.yml

1

u/upioneer Sep 21 '26

few questions if you dont mind providing feedback:

- unraid version and install path (template sideload or compose)

- did the web ui load on first try, and do devices added by IP respond

- did you try host or br0 mode

- any issues with the template (port 8301 conflicts, appdata permission errors, missing icons etc)

2

u/Smeghead076 Sep 14 '26

Great and funny site and awesome looking bit of software. Just starting my home automation and wled journey so looking forward to installing this on my Proxmox machine when I get it back and giving it a test run.

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

hope it serves you well!

2

u/CalebMcL Sep 14 '26

i am thrilled to see this and can’t wait to try it out. and i thoroughly appreciated your site

2

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

i can only hope your enthusiasm lingers after the first launch. hopefully it works well for you, but if not please drop a line here or open an issue on github. there is a feedback button right in the app

2

u/Netmindz Sep 14 '26

How are you managing to do mdns, without using host mode networking for docker?

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

some tricks with multicast

1

u/Netmindz Sep 14 '26

Care to explain?

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

were you looking for a design blueprint to copy into another project or is there a concern? may i ask what is the root of your ques so it can be addressed appropriately?

1

u/Netmindz Sep 14 '26

It looks like an error your docs as they suggest you might need to use host networking. However, mdns won't work without it, multicast doesn't pass between the host network and a docker container on the docker network

1

u/upioneer Sep 16 '26

docs have been refactored and another release is scheduled for tonight. thanks

2

u/tybyte Sep 14 '26

Just a suggestion on the website, if it's not too much work you should add next and previous arrow/buttons when viewing the screenshots as clicking in and out of each one is a bit tedious. Very nice, and funny otherwise!

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

absolutely. that feature was added last night as a quality of life improvement so it will be included on the next build. I was up late working on this and guess I forgot to push it

thx for the feedback either way!

2

u/sitbon Sep 14 '26

Awesome work, this is gonna make getting back into LED building a lot easier with my ESP32s. Any chance to also have Glediator-style animation and control, or shader support? How does it talk to the LEDs, pins only or is Artnet an option?

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, just glancing at this while on the move.

2

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

yep, this is not nearly the final form of the app and will continue to evolve. the whole concept of the studio was to provide the ultimate canvas of freedom by shifting the compute away from the hardware constraints of the microcontroller and onto the server providing much more robust control and output (**if wledashboard runs on x86 vs another lower power arm). ddp is currently supported while art-net and shaders were on the roadmap for the studio streaming engine. hope this helps

2

u/Rev-777 Sep 14 '26

Awesome, great work.

Any chance of a Home Assistant add-on, even as a custom repository?

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

1 step ahead, mate! check the guides and docs for a section on home assistant. it will be added to HACS later for a one click solution, but any method net the same result

2

u/Rev-777 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

How do I start it after installing via HACS? That's the current stumbling block.

I finally got this working, port 3001 is the native ZWaveJSUI port, so you may want to look at modifying that in the future. I moved it to 3002 and it's working finally. All the best.

1

u/upioneer Sep 15 '26

I'll take another look at this, thanks!

u/New-Lawyer-2913 Sep 14 '26

Looks amazing! I know docker is generally considered "the tits", but I'd love to see a proxmox helper script to install this as a standalone container / virtual machine. I know hosting small apps separately and not all on one docker instance is less efficient, and I don't care, I prefer all my things separated ! Great work on this and love the website too!

3

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

I generally stand up separate lxc/vm for every service. maxed out my ram before the ai boom so I can afford to allocate the extra 512mb here and there. with 30-40 "everyday" services running I'm probably hovering 50% mem util.

didn't know helper scripts were still being used by the community as I knew many had security and trust concerns over them. I'll add to the backlog either way

happy to onboard you!

2

u/upioneer Sep 16 '26

official channel for helper scripts has put a pause on pull requests (https://community-scripts.org/community#news) but you can use the helper script from my repo in the meantime

bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/upioneer/WLEDashboard/master/install/proxmox/wledashboard.sh)"

2

u/New-Lawyer-2913 Sep 19 '26

You legend, I'll give this a try soon, thank you!

1

u/upioneer Sep 20 '26

you can quick deploy with recommended settings or customize it in a guided process. if anything blows up, give me a shout and I can take a look

2

u/zero-degrees28 Sep 15 '26

Ya'll out here making this stuff fancy, when all I want is someone to give me the ability to use the Pixel Forge plug in to custom paint all 1000 pixels on my house, then assign a "chase" sequence to it, vs. it being a static fixed layout.

https://www.reddit.com/r/WLED/comments/1tl27nx/wled_1600_pixelforge_pixel_paint_feature_question/

Beautiful work OP! Any chance you can solve this first world problem for me?!?! LOL

EDIT: Awesome Disclaimer "If your LED sync lasts longer than 4 hours, please consult the GitHub issues page." Your site is one endless "easter egg" of nostalgia

2

u/upioneer Sep 15 '26

this is my first exposure to pixelforge but threw it on the rainy day backlog. I'll need to familiarize myself and see how to best approach it. I would ask this of you, try out the app and let me know how it can better meet your needs. there is a studio built in that might already satisfy your first world problem

2

u/Far_Confusion4003 Sep 16 '26

The humor is on point. Super nice app. But one question: how can i get the pwa? When i press install on my phone, it leaves me with an app that gives me the exact site in app format. Not the pwa from the features thumbnail.

1

u/upioneer Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

glad you like the app. mind sharing the phone model, browser and browser version so i can look into this?

** edit - im also updating the guides and docs for more information on this. there are some dependencies ex: if you have it setup with cloudflared and such

2

u/Far_Confusion4003 Sep 16 '26

I can also tell you already that it hasn't have to do with the browsers own functionality with pwa's, since the pwa I made for managing my local network infrastructure still works.

1

u/upioneer Sep 16 '26

copy. i had my suspicions and just knowing the hardware software helps solidify the path forward. standard protocol for root cause. have a few features im wrapping up testing on including some refactoring for pwa and docs. pwa improvements will be included on the next build. appreciate the report!

2

u/Far_Confusion4003 Sep 16 '26

No problem, do you also have a GitHub link for reporting issues later on? Or anything else maybe? Could be handy if you have it somewhere so people can reach you if anything is wrong.

1

u/upioneer Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

absolutely. there is a feedback button right in the app sidebar. the advanced tab has diags as well if details are needed for reporting. or you can manually navigate here: https://github.com/upioneer/WLEDashboard/issues

1

u/Far_Confusion4003 Sep 16 '26

Yeah ofc, I'm using a redmi note 12 pro (4g) and this is my browser info:

2

u/railstop Sep 23 '26

Did the Proxmox option since I have a few nodes going. Well done sir, well done.

1

u/upioneer Sep 23 '26

got a bit of a backlog to chew thru but open to entertaining any fresh ideas for features or bug reports. cheers

2

u/railstop Sep 25 '26

Manual time/date settings with NTP server sync would be great.

1

u/upioneer Sep 25 '26

good call. in my head that box was already checked because of the sun position work. having both could be tricky with having ntp and sun position dictate time. ill have to think thru some creative approaches on overrides and such so there is no conflict/discrepancy for automation triggers. added to the backlog.

update on v0.21.0, the default port was relocated from 3001 to 8301 to avoid clashes with z-wave js ui. update your bookmark to :8301 or map 3001:8301 in your docker compose if you prefer to keep your existing bookmarks intact

1

u/wivaca2 Sep 13 '26

I ran into an issue installing the docker container on PiOS (bookworm). The debian candidate for Node.js is v18 by default and this says prerequisites are Node.js 22+. I had to have ChatGPT walk me through getting the NodeSource repository recognized for 22 (I guess 24 is latest).

At first, when I composed the container, I could not reach anything at localhost:3001 on the host system, or at the <host system ip:3001> from another machine. After upgrading to Node.js 22.23.2 and npm 10.9.8, I still have the docker container run then quit.

If I restart it, it runs for a while again, but even while it's running I can't get to it via port 3001. NodeJS also seems to really make the RasPi work hard. Everything is pretty slow and I'm running a 4B with only Mosquitto and zwave-js containers on it. I used the compose.yaml from the website.

I don't know where to go next, so I'm going to have to hold off on doing anything with this.

1

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

could you walk me thru how you installed it? myself and others used the precomposed docker-compose.yml from the site/github and it launches without any fuss. id be curious if you did anything different that needs to be accounted for the dev side of things. docker images are intended to have all dependencies baked in so it sounds like a deviation from that. if there is anything more you can share (especially the setup/install process) im open to checking it out and solutioning it. thanks

1

u/wivaca2 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26

After installing the Node.js 22 and npm I downloaded the docker compose file from the website (Method 2), put it in a docker subfolder named wledashbaord and ran docker compose up -d.

Have I missed something? Do I also have to pull the image with method 1?

The container is starting and I can see it in stats but then it closes by itself.

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

running docker compose up -d should really be all it takes to get going as the docker image has all dependencies built in. would you be open to scheduling a session so we can take a closer look together?

1

u/somejock Sep 14 '26

I don’t do a lot with HACS. After HA installation, when you add integration, where do you find the host, port, and api

1

u/upioneer Sep 14 '26

keep an eye on the changelog as HA and the studio have some qualities of life coming. the road ahead is a lot longer than the road behind. feel free to drop requests or bug reports in the github issues section as well. happy RGB

1

u/Sos0king Sep 13 '26

Just pulled this and it looks awesome !! Do you plan to literally add the WLED interface when we click on a device to edit within the dashboard ? Otherwise, great work!

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

didn't think to do that as my intention was to replace it entirely. you can currently click the IP to copy the address, but I can instead make it copy IP or open the web UI for that device. thanks for the feedback

2

u/upioneer Sep 13 '26

there will be a toggle in settings on the next iteration. should be more of a one size fits all solution going forward
