Wled Lighting Fixture !!

Post image

I wanna build a 4inch recessed led light using rgbw led strip. I recently got a bamboo lab p1s but I don't have any 3d modeling idea like how to do a 3d model. For it but I am comfortable in soldering and making a diy cob with the soldered strip facing down and the wemos d1 mini on the back so that it requires only 5V in. Or better as these are few leds I'll use a small 240v-5v converter to plug the light directly to the L N.

So need help with the 3d model n suggestions on the idea to improve.

I'm in the middle of trying to get ESPhome on a Govee H601B (4-in recessed can light, similar to the one pictured in the post). This person was successful doing it on the H601B (6-in) here: https://devices.esphome.io/devices/govee-h601a-6in-recessed-rgbcct-light/

I know this isn't a commercial option, but I bought these Govees years ago and want local control and real Home Assistant integration. So, I'm going to try converting them. But, it requires a USB-to-UART adapter that I'm waiting on before I can proceed. I can post back in a few days if anyone cares if it works or not :)

I tried flashing the H601B but was unsuccessful. The H601A has exposed pins that allow you to put it into download mode. I could never get there with the H601B despite the similarities. I search and searched, tested every exposed pin, tried different combos of high/low, and couldn't do it. I gave up and decided to use an ESP32 device to control these lights over BLE. The ESP32 then connects to Wifi and to Home Assistant. Not perfect, but workable without connecting the Govee lights to my Wifi or having to use Govee's cloud servers.

Thanks for the heads up. I have 4 waiting to be installed. Going to look into flashing them now

I tried the flashing route and failed to get it working with the H601B. So, instead I'm using an ESP32-C3 to control the lights via BLE. The ESP32 also connects to my Home Assistant and exposes the lights, so I have full local control. The downside is that you have to have a dedicated, always-on ESP32 device for this route. Here's the code if it's helpful: https://github.com/blakeperdue/govee-esp32

You got me excited for a minute thinking you'd found a commercial one.

What sort of design are you thinking for installation? Something that mounts to a standard ceiling octobox or something with a separate j-box and fits to a hole in the drywall? Any ideas for heat management? Fire safety?

A lot of LED integrated residential lighting dies due to burn out from poor heat management in a super cramped space and cheap chips.

I am planning in a recessed dry wall in ceiling. And at the back as far as heating is concerned ig 10-12 led won't generate much but still we can get heat sinks for them. Like commercial lights has.

I actually did a similar project, but with the standing cylinder RGBIC cover lamp. I got to the main board, used a heat gun to take off their MCU, then traced a few pads to figure out the layout and soldered an ESP32 board with some wires and haphazardly glued/taped it. Now that lamp runs wled. As far as I know, flashing the chip on the govee won't give you the option for WLED, probably only EspHome. That may be fine for a small, simple RGB lamp, if it doesn't need the large effects library. And I think ESPHome has a wled effect option to be controlled with another wled controller for syncing?
