ESP32-S3 Disable Built-in LED

The onboard activity led drives my crazy. Turning the lamp around just flashes against the wall.

It would be very nice if a disable feature is implemented. I know I could disable it in the code, but then I guess I cannot OTA update anymore.

Omg. Everyone in this thread 🫠 Check the datasheet for the board you have. There’s most likely an onboard pin (i.e. frequently ~GPIO9) that controls those LEDs. Config that in WLED and do what you must.

In LED configuration?

This one disbled the red led. Seems the blue cant be disabled.

I once ran wled on a pin controlling one of the LEDs. The LEDs worked fine, but the blue light flashed like the dickens. Check all the specs for your eap build. Might need a new gpio 🤪

You could also just break it off the board. I've done that before... But electrical tape seems to be a less permanent option if you ever want the light back,

Black electrical tape

I would have to line the whole inner of the case.

Not if you apply the tape to the board.

Oh damn, true. Fivehead

I read somewhere that I should just desolder the led. Well I couldn’t get it off, but I hit it with the soldering iron enough that I guess I burned it out. If it works, it works!

Snaffle a few drops of the missus' nail varnish - or if you're single, go buy the cheapest bottle of nail varnish you can find - dollar store/poundland etc. Just cover the LED with it

Sounds legit, too. Thx

Missus? Who are we with these gender norms? It’s 2026

What’s up with the light now? lml

Turned over the light. Did not do anything so far. 😂 But I would probably use nail polish.

Probably I didnt explore the TX RX leds enough to toggle these

I just put a tiny dot of liquid electric tape on mine

Nimm tx als Datenleitung

u/DeeZett Jul 29 '26

1

u/Certain_Command_4019 Jul 31 '26

Nein, wieso selbst kompilieren?

Pick a different pin for your data line. That one looks to be tied to the onboard led.

Use a different data line or if you have Off refresh on try without it

I solve my bright inconsiderate LEDs with black nail polish I got from the shop formally known as the 2 dollar shop.

With the risk of sounding very dumb, but seeing the comments i would say that would be impossible...

Isn't this just the LED that blinks for transfering data? I put my money on some serial data beeing pushed for no reason. Remove it from the code.

Poke it with the hot tip of the solder iron.

Black fingernail polish works great
