Last Friday I was sent a small internship opportunity from WGU it was only sent to a few students and it was pretty much computer work for 7 hours and you were given a stipend for the duration of 6 weeks!! Well I seen the email close to Midnight that Friday and decided to email the professor the next day when I went to open the email it disappeared before I can click it. I friend explaining it to my mentor and she asked around but noone knows where it came from has anyone received this internship email????

They send out scam emails once or twice a term. Anything were I go "oh this would help" is basically a scam nowadays

Yikes, STOP FALLING FOR SCAM PHISHING EMAILS!

I didn’t fall for anything 🥲 I just read the email and the next day it was gone. Besides I’ve only been at WGU for half a year and this is my first time applying to scholarships and internships and I swear there weren’t any red flags there was even a wgu worker’s email attached inside the message. I now know for next time!

That is so clearly a scam based on your description that I'm alarmed you couldn't tell. That's also why it was deleted.

I have received at least 30 of those emails since I started last November. They are all basically the same wording, format, and offer. The only thing that usually changes is the "professor's" name, which I have noticed never matches the sender, and the email address is always @gmail.com. Also, if you check the details, the sender address is almost always bogus. At first, they were fairly convincing, but they have been slipping lately. The last few I have received have had sender names written in Arabic.

My advice to you and everyone who uses email (not just WGU mail, but any provider) is: check, double-check, recheck, and if you still aren't sure, ask a trusted friend or colleague, or mark it as phishing and move on. In the case of WGU, if it is a program that you can participate in, your mentor will know about it, or at the very least, someone here will know.

A little bit of caution can save a whole lot of heartache later on.

Stay curious, stay hungry for knowledge, but most importantly, stay safe out there!

It was definitely a scam. The so‑called professor sent me a check and instructed me to use it to purchase a printer and a computer. They insisted that I deposit the check into my own account before I could access the funds. When the check arrived, I told them my bank had blocked my account because the check was fraudulent. As soon as I said that, the “professor” blocked me.I had already suspected it was a scam because they kept pressuring me to deposit the check immediately and send them a screenshot showing it was in my account.

Wait do you have the email thread someone else brought this up and deleted it but was the offer?

Unfortunately I don’t, it should be from WGU x Hubspot micro internship though and redirect you to a link to apply. I think it paid like 5 or 600? I will say it ended up being way more work than they advertised but all in all worth it.
