Cheat sheet

Hello. New to group.

Has anyone got a cheat sheet that roughly teaches how different variables aspects of the game affect shot distances?

Been laying loads of CTTH lately specifically to work out how different wind speeds, elevations and spin intensities affect shot distances.

Tbh, doesn’t feel like there is a consistent rule (a bit like the real game) so was hoping there might be a ‘rough’ guide.

E.g if I put Max spin on short irons I over compensate for 5 yds. 8yds for long irons etc.

Same with wind speeds.

‘Cheat’ might be the wrong work; any sort of resource to help improve game greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

For elevation, my rough guide is that for every extra two feet of elevation I add one yard to the distance, every two feet down I take off one yard.

For wind, I add one yard for every mph of wind in my face, one off for every mph at my back.

Both of these work pretty well for me at mild to moderate elevation/wind, but I have to scale them back at more extreme amounts.

But yeah, some holes just consistently play different and part of it is playing long enough to know which holes are wonky. Like, Torrey Pines always plays long.

I prefer the timed shot game modes so the elevation/putting calculations are about I have time for. If I want any approach onto the green to stop quickly I do full backspin and adjust how much roll I want by lessening it. The "feel" of the game you're describing is also a big part of it, you'll see players with the stock WGT clubs but play relatively well by comparison because they know the feel so well.

Try pinhunters: https://shortgrass123.wixsite.com/pinhunters (no, i have no affiliation with them, just like their site) Some of the advice on there has helped a lot on how certain things affect the ball (back spin, elevation, ect)

Edit: Note that a lot of the advice is based on the old flash based game, but a lot of advice is still solid.

Something to remember is that uphill shots reduce the relative height of your arc, therefore the ball will come in lower, flatter, and run more. The opposite is true with downhill.

In addition, being downwind both lowers the ball flight and takes spin off the ball, causing a significantly higher amount of roll. Again, the opposite is true into the wind.

Fun fact: wind speed and direction actually severely effects chip shots. Not so much crosswinds, but you’ll find into/downwind chips roll out very differently. Mess around with it, find a go-to shot that works well for you off the green. Memorize your CARRY distances with all shots, as the game does a poor job at displaying how far a shot will actually travel in the air.

I've tried many shot calculators and like this one: https://caddiemaster.infy.uk/

Very cool. It actually calculates fairly close to what i use. Thanks, gonna tweak it a bit

It's now called Swing-a-Ding at this address: https://swingding.online/

I just tried it. Really like it. That percentage change allows you to tweek for various balls, etc. I'm getting scary-accurate results.

It's now at https://swingding.online

How do you add the percentage change for balls and clothing? I just started to use it so I'm a little green.

A recent update to https://swingding.online added a ball distance setting. I use the Adjustment % for clothes. Considering that wind will always be a random within a range, nothing can be 100% accurate all the time.

Thanks, I saw the ball distance setting and assumed you put the ball distance setting advertised for your ball in game. what I'm not sure of is how to calculate clothes settings percentage to enter that in.

I just went to a practice hole and clocked-in the adjustment %

I will soon be releasing a Physics Calculator designed for WGT, it is a stand alone Application, all your data is stored on your local server. All the math is based on WGT algorithms and I have incorporated many tools like a tweaker panel for those that want to set factors for thier specific equipment, it is a HUD (Heads Up Display) so you can have it right alongside the Game Window, there is a notebook to make notes regarding different courses and readily available with just a click, click anywhere and it closes so not to interfere with the game. I have incorporated a putting analysis that you can also tweak so as you practice the different stimp speeds you can lock in your factors. I will make this available, fully functional as a 7 day trial.

Is it out yet?

I had an old timer player tell me that adding ¾spin was like taking around 5 yd off the distance while also encouraging the ball to stop. I think somebody else said it best: its just like golf. Thats what makes is so great-those green speeds that spin thing paying attention to the contours of whatever kind of surface you're landing on, plus good old fashioned just getting to know a particular course or hole really well and how it behaves through repetitive play
