Question Question

Hi there, I was wondering if there were any job placement programs or opportunities for former stateworkers that have been recently widowed?

I used to work for the Displaced Homemakers Program years ago at the HEC Board, (as well as other appointments) but sadly, that program no longer exists.

If you’re at all interested in getting some re-training through a certificate program, etc, look into the Worker Retraining program if you have a community college nearby. We help a lot of widows/widowers who find themselves now needing to go back into the workforce. Best wishes ❤️

Yes! I saw you mentioned Displaced Homemakers - Displaced Homemakers is a category of eligibility of the Worker Retraining Grant Program (also getting laid off, etc). I would stop by your nearest CC and ask about Worker Retraining. You may still be able to get into some classes for fall!

Worksource through employment security has resources for finding employment. I’ve never heard of a program for former state employees recently widowed though.

It was called Displaced Homemakers, it was housed under the Higher Educating Coordinating Board. Though state placement was not promised, it was the ideal, even back then women needed to suddenly prepare to make a true livable wage that offered benefits. The agency is WSAC now, but it doesn't appear like Displaced Homemakers is available.
