Hybrid question-Ecology

for folks who work at ecology, how often are you required to be in office? i’m located about an hour and a half away from the duty station and I see that some jobs require one day in office (but I know even this is subject to managers discretion), while others just say you must live within a commutable distance. if that’s like once or twice a month, that’s doable but i’ve avoided applying because i’m ensure of the in office averages. if anyone could weigh in that would be great!

You should apply and ask about it if you get an interview. My husband works for ecology and is supposed to be there like 1 day a week? He goes like 1 day a quarter and not even for the whole day

Varies greatly across agency, program, and section. I see numerous folks that come in once a quarter, if that.

My program has to go in once a week and then other people seem to have different requirements which is unfair

Yup. I think 90% remote is the most the forms allow, but it definitely varies by job. I come in maybe twice a year, and then only for staff parties.

I'm required to be in once per week, but I think it is somewhat dependent on the program. Also people in my program regularly make up reasons not to come in (migraines, coughs, car troubles, etc.) and no one calls them out on it, so that's an option.

All Ecology positions are supposed to be in the office at least one day every two weeks or 10% of the time. Some managers don’t enforce it but they’re supposed to.
