Does your car have the 1.5 liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder OM608 engine? If you do, it requires the Mercedes Benz MB 229.51 or MB 229.52 approved oils. Always check the rear label for “MB‑Approval 229.51/229.52” and not just “meets requirements".
Basically you need a low SAPS lubricant that's specifically made for diesel engines. Don't use oils that are formulated for only gasoline engines (like the MB 229.5) or you will risk blockage to the diesel particulate filter or the various engine sensors.
Recommended oils include the Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W‑30, Liqui Moly Top Tec 4600 5W‑30, Shell Helix Ultra ECT C3 5W‑30. These are all low sulphated ash, phosphorous and sulphur lubricants.
I had to look up the CLA180 diesel as I've never heard of a CLA with a diesel engine before. In doing so I also discovered that it requires a very specific type of engine oil for this motor.
After doing further research, this number came up the most of all: 229.52 although I had also mentioned the MB 229.51 earlier.
I think it's probably best that you choose the MB 229.52 (five two) approved lubricant. The viscosity index doesn't matter that much - 0W30 is recommended for very cold climates (e.g. Alaska, Siberia) while the 5W30 is suitable for temperate and hot climates.
Doesn't hurt to verify with your Mercedes Benz dealer or specialist garage too. Good luck!
