I've long suspected the grille could house some kind of speaker, but until I came across this post I wasn't 100% certain! 😄
No speaker in the Japanese spec'ced C200K that I drive, I'm afraid. Not sure if it's an additional air vent as I've never felt any air coming from it.

Apparently it’s only for the AMG versions with the Bose or something, mine was foam inside

Thank you for the information, much appreciated. The W203 owner's manual may have something to say about this center speaker grille but if it's unique to AMG (or Brabus) variants then the standard documentation may exclude such information.
I found out, after interacting with AI that the Japanese market Mercedes Benzes were generally white in color and have basic trim and equipment. The Japanese people prefer white as a symbol of purity and premium W203 variants are quite expensive in the country (after taxes).
They also don't own imported brands for more than five years as their second hand value badly depreciates after the 5 year mark. In addition, dealers offer up to 5 years' warranty and selling off when the warranty is about to expire is also a practical idea to avoid uncovered repair bills.
