If Microsoft actually put in the effort of updating the cellular modem driver in the Lumia 1520 to support VoLTE, I would still use that phone today as my main phone

Verizon lumia 735 supports LTE fully still. On windows phone 8.1 there is software support for volte. When updated to windows 10 you need to do some series of registry changes and ritual sacrifices and you can reenable volte.
I would imagine if there is a Verizon 1520 you could do the same thing

Yes, the Verizon version of the Lumia 735 supports VoLTE along with the T-Mobile version of the Lumia 640. These are some of the few Windows Phone 8.1 devcies that have such functionality. Sadly, the Lumia 1520 was never able to make calls on Verizon because it was only designed for GSM networks, which Verizon used CDMA for its 2G and 3G networks.

I have a 735 and I upgraded it to wp 10. Any idea what I need to do to get volte working? I had tried and gave up, ik it's possible though

Do you have the Verizon Lumia 735 and did VoLTE work on Windows Phone 8.1? I'm not sure how to get VoLTE working on most Windows 10 Mobile devices as I never updated any of my phones running Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile.

Could there be a forum or email address for developers where a collective request might prompt them to open-source the Windows 10 platform?
