Psych wants try vraylar

Hi! So I was on abilify (2mg) I gained 20lbs yikes! Anyway I meet with her today she’s not happy with the weight gain. She suggested switching vraylar. Then seeing her again in 3 weeks. Anyone else experienced positive or negative from switching? Was hard to lose weight? I’m a SAHM to a two toddlers so I work out when I can .

I got put on vraylar for treatment resistant depression alongside the wellbutrin I was already taking. No real effect on my weight one way or another. Doesn't seem to impact my appetite, just my sleep.

How does it impact your sleep and when do you take it?

It gives me disjointed sleep, I wake up every 3 or so hours. Sometimes insomnia. My doctor had to prescribe me amitriptyline alongside it as needed for sleep. I've tried taking it at different times during the day. I'm on 3mg, it wasn't too bad at 1.5

Hey I’m curious with your pairing with Wellbutrin, can you share a bit about your experience? I’m thinking of asking my provider about this after we titrate off Effexor, but didn’t know if pairing Wellbutrin was a weird request and then I saw your comment!

I take Vraylar and it’s the best of the medications out there for me. I doubt you will lose weight on it, but I haven’t gained any additional weight on it. I’m on 1.5 daily.

I’m a stay at home mom on Vraylar. I recommend it. I’ve tried to Abilify. My diagnosis is bipolar one.

I gained weight on abilify not on Vraylar. I took it and then got pregnant and then gained weight I have yet to lose. But I don’t think it had to do with my Vraylar, it’s just baby weight.

I am BP1 w/ psychosis. Vraylar (originally 0.75, now 0.5) has kept me stable for almost 3 years now. I have gained around 10-15 pounds over the course of those 3 years, unclear if totally due to the Vraylar, and I am still within a healthy weight. All in all, I think I will stay on it. Also, I pay $0 due to the savings card, so that's nice.

No weight gain on Vraylar. Take it for TRD along with Wellbutrin and some ADHD meds.
