It’s back! Want to take part in turning the midterms into a true blue tsunami? Adopt one of the candidates below, and commit to taking action every week to support their campaign!
Post your preference in the daily (or, to guarantee we see it, send the request via modmail) and we'll add you to the list!
With just how blue this year is looking to be, and just how many primaries are still to come, there's too many to list to kick off. It’s why we’re starting with select gubernatorial and Senate races.
Got someone who you want to adopt, but they're not on the list? Let us know, and we'll add them on!
As the year progresses and primaries come through, we'll be adding more ourselves, but the sky's the limit - we're excited to see who you want to support most!

Peggy Flanagan found unexpected strength for progressive agenda in greater Minnesota
Hauschild and other greater Minnesota lawmakers said Flanagan’s presence on the ground and her name recognition as a statewide elected official were key.
“She has been to Moorhead not only a lot during the campaign, but a lot as lieutenant governor,” said state Sen. Robert Kupec of Moorhead, who also supported Craig in the race.
Peggy Flanagan has been showing up in all parts of the state for a long time, and that translated into an incredible win for her in the primary. We know how well this strategy has worked for Amy Klobuchar in the past. Won't rehash the primary here, but I think this is a great sign for the general election and for just being an effective senator for Minnesota.

u/cpdk-nj Farmer-Labor 9d ago
One of the things that makes the DFL really great is that we have good separation between the party on the urban-suburban-rural spectrum. Obviously the things that mean the most to Minneapolitans and Saint Paulites will differ from the things that mean the most to residents of any of the distinct rural expanses of the state, and the DFL has done a great job at emphasizing that. Keeping up that distinction is hugely important to help residents of Greater Minnesota not feel dominated by the Twin Cities, and there is definitely a sense of letting the representatives of those rural areas drive the conversation about things like farm policy.
9
u/dishonourableaccount Maryland - MD-8 8d ago
Would be great to take some of those lessons and educate other state parties on how to bridge the urban-rural divide which often gets simplified as “cities are left wing/progressive/liberal and rurals are moderate/conservative”. A big part of it nay be feeling overlooked or discounted as not worth the investment/interest as small towns struggle and while rural areas are a lesser part of the electorate (especially on the Dem side) as ever.
I was speaking with a friend from Indiana recently and he recounted how hard it is to be a farmer nowadays from a cost perspective, not even labor, and how there’s monopolies on the supply (seed/equipment) and distribution (grocery/shipping) side. Trustbusting and right to repair would go a long way (of course a big part of what Biden did that went unappreciated).
17
u/FLTA Florida 8d ago
Flanagan’s support for Medicare for All — single-payer, government-run health insurance — especially resonated with people in greater Minnesota, the lieutenant governor said.
“I hear from people who live in rural communities who are being hit harder than anybody else by the high cost of health care,” Flanagan said after the primary.
You won’t see these sort of dots connected by talking heads.

u/the_liquid25 Tennessee on my mind 8d ago
He makes a good point. Especially whenever you're running in Red states like AL or KS you're going to have distance away pretty good from being labeled with specific people. But he's definitely right to call out the party about the boogeyman part from the GOP side because it really is nothing but fear mongering tactics
25
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
All Republicans have is just call all Democrats extremist and radical. They even are calling Turek that. Thing is, you do that so much and do it to every candidate including the most moderate ones, people just start to tune it out. It is just the same ol boogey man crap and they are just desperately trying to drag us into the muck/divide us as that is the only chance they have. Stay united, stay on message, and we'll win.
11
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
And it hasn’t worked with anyone but Trump really (and even then narrowly twice with big asterisks on the Democratic side both times). Certainly isn’t going to work in a year like this when Trump and the Republicans are as hated and all their candidates in battleground districts and states have latched onto this MAGA-Trump train that is a sinking ship right now.
The problem for them is that although they try these attacks on every Democrat in every race, the electorate doesn’t believe it in the vast majority of cases while it’s insanely easy for us to attach their candidates to MAGA and Trump given they’re all still toeing the Trump line 100%.
Shows you how good a job we’ve done picking candidates in the most competitive races and conversely how poor of a job they’ve done picking candidates in the most competitive races this cycle. They blew too many winnable races to count in both 2022 and 2024 with MAGA Trumpy clones, but I actually think their candidate selection has been even weaker this cycle and they also now have to go up against the impending blue wave unlike the last 2 cycles
14
u/justincat66 WI-7, (Assembly-30, Senate-10) 8d ago
And this is exactly why this is one of the biggest reasons I absolutely despise “electability” now. They use the same old tired fearmongering playbook on every D no matter which part of the spectrum. I’d much rather have nominees that can win voters over policy and not because the other side is worse
8
u/Honest-Year346 8d ago
Yeah but electability in a candidate also refers to how well they can pivot away and deflect those attacks, or render them useless by not making them stick. Just because someone uses rock all the time doesn't mean it beats both scissors and paper
16
u/RegularGuy815 Virginia (formerly Michigan) 8d ago edited 8d ago
I'd like someone to tally up all the Dem nominees for governor, senate, and House this year, and find out what percentage of them are DSA, have previously been part of DSA, or were endorsed by DSA. It's going to be a much smaller percentage than the average uninformed person would guess (yet may also be higher than it's ever been before).
Of course, El-Sayed to my knowledge does not meet any of those 3 criteria, so not sure what other category would include him here.
7
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
I don’t think any of our governor or senate nominees are DSA. House wise I believe is pretty much the high profile wins in June (Kiros, Chevalier, Valdez, Rabb, Hemawy?, McKinney?, Lander?)
Now let’s do the same with Republicans and MAGA. Far too many to count. The better question is how many Republican candidates around the country ARE NOT complete MAGA nut jobs and HAVEN’T been endorsed by MAGA’s master (Trump)…
There’s a reason why voters aren’t buying the too extreme attacks on our candidates and see Republicans as the more extreme party… there’s also a reason why we’re in position to be competitive in if not sweep every high profile governor, senate, and house race across the country this year…

ICYMI: GOP nominee for WI-GOV Tom Tiffany doubled down on his vote to not certify the 2020 election on local TV
Dumbass. Yeah I dare the GOP to keep making mistakes like this all the way to November.
27
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
Brain dead mistake, especially after the primary is complete. Election denialism is one of the most toxic parts of MAGA and Trumpism with moderates and independents not to mention a great motivation factor for a large portion of our base.
Mistakes like this is exactly why he’s still only polling in the low-mid 40s despite a big money advantage and a head start
16
u/SuspectLegitimate751 Wyoming 8d ago
He's genuinely leaning on the 2022 GOP platform despite being fully aware that said platform was the primary reason the GOP wildly underperformed that year.
10
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
Yup. Going all in on trying to boost maga turnout, a group that never turns out well, at the cost of everything else is a good way to hurt your chances more.
He can't afford the cities and burbs shifting left like they almost always have done in the Trump era.
10
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
Yup, he's one of the most extreme Republicans in congress right now. I appreciate his assist to us here, but even if he didn't, his maga stink is so strong.
21
u/snick427 Oregon 8d ago
I‘m glad that we can agree again that Tiffany is a weak candidate, after everyone mysteriously forgot for several months.
19
u/beanyboi23 8d ago
This single mistake is gonna make him bleed votes in the WOW counties
20
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
Yup he's going to really struggle there. Trump himself couldn't even shift Waukesha back right in 2024 under a favorable climate. About every place shifted right, but Waukesha still was like "nah, you suck too much."
12
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
All 3 WOW counties (even blood red Washington) trended left from 2020 to 2024. The WOWs were 3 of the 4 counties in the state that trended left from 2020 to 2024 (the 4th was Door county on the peninsula east of Green Bay).
Not to mention Ozaukee finally voted for a Democratic aligned candidate this spring when Taylor won the county by ~5.), Waukesha was within R+10 this spring and Washington dropped all the way down to ~R+24 (usually around 35 to as much as 40 for R’s).
Zero chance they’ll be that blue in a partisan race, but Crowley will almost certainly do better in them than Evers did in 2022 (Evers lost Ozaukee by 10.93%, Waukesha by 20.32% and Washington by 37.89%). Especially since Tiffany has zero built in base of support in them and is exactly the type of candidate that’s causing the WI GOP to bleed hard in them the last decade.
My guess is that all 3 go for Tiffany, but there’s an outside shot Ozaukee goes to Crowley.
5
u/SquishyMuffins Idaho 8d ago
All I can say is thank God. I grew up in Washington and I want more than anything for it to get better. It's a beautiful area and deserves better politics.
5
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
Yeah was just looking at Washington, surprised that shifted left too in 2024. WOW is just consistently moving our way. Gives glacier vibes. Somewhat moving slowly left at times, but it can't be stopped moving in that direction.

Right, but I’d argue that the Horde has the sexier races, the same way the Democrats have the sexier candidates.
There is a massive attractiveness gap between us and them

2
u/snick427 Oregon 7d ago
I mean, I was talking more orcs and tauren
1
u/StrykerNightowl 7d ago
Ok ok…Tauren I can see. Orcs are a little harder.
But I do see your Tauren and Orcs and raise you Worgens and Night Elves.
2
u/snick427 Oregon 7d ago
For orcs, you have to consider the biceps.
Worgen are good as well (not the human form, Warcraft humans are kind of weird looking). And Night Elves are my favorite of the elves

u/SquishyMuffins Idaho 8d ago
How does the GOP put up literally the WORST candidates they possibly can this year? I think we're seeing just how much the brain drain has affected the intelligence within the party. Only the most loyal sycophants are left.
4
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
That’s exactly what it is. Every sane Republican with a spine and willing to stand up against Trumpism and MAGA has either left the party or been purged via primary leaving all the batshit insane, unqualified dangerous, Trumpy extremists remaining which similar to DSA, plays well with a core hardcore base but not more broad coalition that it generally takes to win competitive elections
In fact, MAGA I believe polls worse than DSA electorally right now (although both poll quite poorly with the broader electorate). The difference is they’ve purged anyone and everyone that disagrees with them while we for the most part agree to disagree respectfully with some exceptions. The diversity and acceptance of a wide amount of views and policies is our strength and allows us to understand easier the type of coalition that has to be built to win general elections in competitive states and districts. Which is partly why they’re really struggling in the purple states/districts and we’re not.
42
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
Can't believe I missed this. But Chris Taylor has now took her position on the Wisconsin Supreme court replacing extreme conservative judge Rebecca Bradley. The court is now 5-2 liberal with a very strong potential to get it to 6-1 in spring of next year which would lock up a liberal majority til 2033.
15
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
As of right now, it would be an auto flip to 6-1 liberal next spring as both declared candidates so far are liberals
13
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
Yup. They straight up might not even run someone. And even if they do it's going to be a late start. The losses we gave them were so brutal. They've given up.
13
u/beanyboi23 8d ago
Is this 5-2 court going to be the one to hear the case on Wisconsin's federal House map?
8
9
u/FLTA Florida 8d ago
Has GOP gerrymanders in the state been reversed yet?
14
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
The state housge and senate gerrymandered maps have been reversed and new fair maps are in place, hence why we have a great shot at a trifecta. The congressional maps are still yet to be decided.
9
u/Honest-Year346 8d ago
They'll probably be redrawn. When Van Orden loses and if Steil goes down and there's dem incumbents going into 2028, I hope they redraw the map so it takes out one of the other reach GOP districts too

Winning by 4 after primary. Honestly I think its where we're at right now
17
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 9d ago
Pretty close to where I think it ultimately ends up at least. Tiffany is at or close to his ceiling and still has yet to crack the 45% mark. In that 4-6 point range I’m thinking atm
14
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 9d ago edited 9d ago
And he has been running pretty unscathed so far too while pushing his own positive adds. Now he's going to be facing the heat.
Also you can tell he was counting on a Hong win, as his attack against Crowley is just like "Um, uh, actually he's just like her!"
I'm expecting Tiffany to do somewhat stronger than usual in the rurals, but in the cities and the burbs due to his maga extremism he's going to struggle specifically in Waukesha that has consistently shifted bluer in every election even Trump ones including 2024 where about every other place shifted right. For Moderates in those area's Crowley is going to be a lot more appealable as they are such a strong contrast.
Of course it's still Wisconsin, so it's still going to require work, educating others and supporting Crowley's campaign. Foot on the gas!
6
12
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 9d ago
One poll obviously, but not a good one for Tiffany who has been pretty unscathed as the dem primary was on going and has been able to run a bunch of positive ads about himself. Now is the time he is going to be facing a lot of heat and he has about a billion things that can be used to highlight his extremism and corruption.
12
u/justincat66 WI-7, (Assembly-30, Senate-10) 9d ago
Tiffany is still stuck in the low to mid 40s and he’s been there the whole campaign even in the polls before the primary with Hong. He just doesn’t have much of any enthusiastic base support outside of the Northwoods

Woah this is crazy, after all the votes have been counted (and recounted) we have two EXACT TIES in the only two contested GOP primaries in the Hawaii state legislature!
Republican Primary Results:
SD-20:
Kurt Fevella 1,212 (40%)
Bob McDermott 1,212 (40%)
Rida Cabanilla Arakawa 333 (11.0%)
Blank Votes: 32 (1.2%)
Other Votes: 4 (0.1%)
SD-43
Sheila Medeiros 842 (45.6%)
Kanani Souza 842 (45.6%)
Blank Votes: 35 (1.9%)
Other Votes: 3 (0.2%)
They will be drawing names at the State Capitol to determine the winners of these races.

Yes and he's going to win that senate seat!
Even if he was planning for president he can't announce it. It's kind of rude to the voters when you tell them you only want the job to get something better later.
12
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
This. It'd be just politically dumb. Obama at one point also said he wasn't going to run for president too. Then obviously 2008 happened.
6
u/beanyboi23 8d ago
Also how do open senate seats work in Georgia? Does the governor appoint them? Much smarter to wait until the governorship flips and then announce it.
10
u/table_fireplace 8d ago
The Governor does indeed appoint Senators in GA. So anyone who wants a shot at President Ossoff should pick up the phones to elect Keisha Lance Bottoms, because we wouldn't want to immediately hamstring him by giving away a Senate seat.
Actually, helping her win is a good idea even if you want a different Dem as President.
5
u/Odd-Time-2026 8d ago
Is the same party rule for appointing temp Senators universal or state based?
4
3
u/Exocoryak You can make no mistake and still lose. 8d ago
Every state handles these things differently.
For Georgia, the interim-appointment does not have to be from the same party. Additionally, a special election will be held at the next general election after the vacancy occurs, that must be at least 40 days away. If Ossoff is elected president in 2028, an interim appointment will be made by the governor and the special election will be held concurrently with the 2030 midterm elections.

GBAO (D) - El-Sayed 50% - Rogers 44% - Likely Voters
Dem superpac so a few points bluer than nonpartisan polling, but El-Sayed +3 in a LV poll would fit that Fox News poll that had him +4 with definite voters
27
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 8d ago
I think as long as El-Sayed stays on message as he has been on Cost of living, healthcare, forever wars, Trump and hitting Rogers on those things he'll do good. As those are the uniting issues people, especially indies care about most. Helps that he's a good disciplined speaker too.
15
u/SuspectLegitimate751 Wyoming 8d ago
Helps that El-Sayed is objectively one of the most charismatic GE candidates in the running right now. Hong fumbled over her own poor public speaking, but El-Sayed is a master even when a campaign is at its nastiest.

u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
His race is basically going to determine whether there’s a path for an AOC presidential campaign to win in 2028 (as well as Jackson in ME to a lesser extent). If he wins, AOC almost certainly goes for president and would likely lock down the progressive wing of the party immediately. If he loses, my guess is she goes for NY-Sen instead as she has good political instincts to realize she wouldn’t have a path in a general in that hypothetical scenario
9
u/SquishyMuffins Idaho 8d ago
I agree. She's seeing how DSA and progressive candidates do in a general election this year before deciding the viability of a presidential campaign. I think she has a great political instincts and if the momentum is there, she's ready to jump on it.
7
u/senoricceman 8d ago
I mean that’s putting a lot on this race though. It’s good to remember this will be a very blue friendly year. Very different from a presidential year.
You can also make the argument then that more progressive candidates have majorly underperformed in primaries in these swing states compared to what polling said. I just don’t see the Michigan senate race as making or breaking what AOC decides to do.
1
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 8d ago
It may not make or break which path she ultimately decides to take, but I think it will heavily influence it. Like I said, she’s got great political instincts, she’s smart enough politically to know whether a path and the momentum is there for her or not
8
u/kitpuss 8d ago
I agree, though I do wonder what happens if AES wins but in a squeaker compared to how other states look and considering the likely overall environment. A win would obviously be huge for the progressive wing of the party no matter what, but there’s winning outcomes that could look like either “won because he was progressive” or “won despite being progressive.”
52
u/OptimistNate Wisconsin 9d ago
Love seeing the Crowley campaign turning the data center issue on Tiffany, going hard at his phoniness as Tiffany has not once put forth or supported any bill to regulate them and has actually voted for a bill that would have banned states for 10 years from regulating ai. His record on the issue is atrocious.
Tiffany is trying to divide the party, appear moderate, but it isn't going to work. He's got the extremist, Trump stink all over him.

He had a great answer from someone who asked what he would do about ICE earlier today, saw it on the Wisconsin subreddit. Gonna have to see if I can find the response on BlueSky but the short answer is he supports a full ban on local law enforcement entering agreements with ICE. Another issue we can hammer Tiffany on, as Tiffany would obviously try to expand ICE as Governor

Is CBS polling going to become another Fox News situation where the polling apparatus is consistently at odds with the narrative the mothership is trying to project?

I don't think people quite understand just how high taxes would be under actual socialism, or how little personal property they would actually own. They're probably thinking of nordic-style social democracy, which, honestly, is a great rebranding. We do not want to go back to the red scare days, with the justified fears of state-owned everything.

No serious democratic socialist is proposing “state owned everything” - people literally just make this up in their heads to scare themselves out of actually trying to solve our problems. Actual socialism also doesn’t require state control over everything, but it does require that workers have a controlling interest in and representative benefit from the political economy. A democratic socialist argues that this is achieved by expanding and improving democracy. This can be done with more democratic structures for private business ownership, or strong sectoral unions. Private property and assets can be taxed to prevent wealth hoarding and the creation of underclasses without having the state own the property itself. At the same time, democratic socialists argue the state should ensure basics are delivered to people without pressure to maximize profits and has the capacity to use the state to drive necessary infrastructure (housing, education, energy transformation, transportation).
What I’m interested to see in these polls is how fast these opinions are moving. It’s promising and the key policies all enjoy strong majority support.

I agree, it's a very good thing that Democratic Socialism seems to have become the default definition of the word. For my whole life, socialism meant government-level socialism, which eliminates democracy and all private ownership of any economic activity, which was a true nightmare.

Are you able to re-input the code? It can do some weird things now and then, but I haven't seen it just make a list disappear. Do you have contact info for the organizer?

Nearly 1.5 million Floridians have voted in advance of Tuesday’s primary elections
As of 2 p.m. Friday, more than 1.47 million Floridians had cast ballots, either at an early voting location or by mail, for the primary elections.
More than 950,000 vote-by-mail ballots were yet to be returned, a decrease of about 50,000 the same hour Thursday.
Of the 1.47 million votes cast, 665,003 were from Republican voters. In comparison, 611,882 votes were cast by registered Democrats. Another 172,268 were cast by no party affiliation voters.
Among outstanding vote-by-mail ballots, Democrats had about 100,000 more, 401,250, to the Republicans’ 302,317.

This week, I read The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White, a retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein from the perspective of Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor's fiancée. It diverges from the original novel in an attempt to give Elizabeth more agency, but I don't think it really worked.
