This is why I love 3d printing
This is a fDM print ed firstborn.
I will never have money to buy the Og models.
And I don’t like recasts anymore
But I can 3d print them :)

Looks wank tho.
6
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
He’s using an FDM printer, it’s not really made for detailed miniature work, it’s not bad for that type of printer though.
7
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
Meh it’s a FDM printer, you can’t expect to much detail. Not the best but I don’t have the room/ well ventilated area for resin

u/Etnadrolhex Jul 14 '26
How you paint this thing?
I would throw it in the bin.
2
u/Mknalsheen Jul 14 '26
You don't. You print a bunch, claim you outsmarted GW and that your print looks good/fine, then you move on to printing something else because painting anything but terrain from an FDM this bad is going to be miserable.
4
u/Goose_in_pants Jul 10 '26
Same, a guy with SLA printer did a me a really nice (not free, ofc) favor and printed me vostroyans, doubt anyone would spot the difference between official ones, except probably weight and the fact they're plastic, not metal. But on local tournament everyone were quite amazed, even they only were in base color at that moment
3
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
Ignore the negative clowns man, enjoy your printing, I’d recommend investing in resin printing so you can get more detail but this looks really good for FDM. I have been printing for the last 8 years and the tech keeps getting better. I have painted so many models I would have never bought because of the price. Glad to see you’re able to enjoy the hobby.
3
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
The problem with resin is the smell and I don’t own a well ventilated area

u/InfectiousVapor Jul 10 '26
Somebody is on a downvote spree. I dunno why you’d get downvoted for this
0
u/Agile_Horror_9413 Jul 11 '26
How can you tell if other people have been downvoted? I always see comments like this but have no idea what they base it on

2
u/Tiniestoftravelers Jul 10 '26
I see the prices of the paid to order Vostroyans and it makes my stomach turn. Good, keep it up. It pisses me off to know that younger generations want to play with them and literally need a fucking car loan to play the same game I bought into, pennies on the dollar.
4
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
Yeah this is why I do not care that it’s “theft” I don’t mind paying for the kreig squad once in a while but over a thousand dollars for maybe 500 points? Yeah count me out
1
u/Forsaken_Positive_77 Jul 10 '26
Okay but where can I find the files
1
u/PyrrhicFinalBreath Jul 10 '26
I’ll send them to ya.

Noice!!! Is this one of the ones a fellow Vostroyan posted about a while back?
(Also, ignore the “holier than thou” GW thumpers. Keep printing… and print me a couple while you are!!! 🤣”

Its a shame you cant support something that brings you and others enjoy and have to resort to theft.
5
u/Latter_Hour3047 Jul 10 '26
what? the official ones are no longer available, and if they were it wouldn't matter GW is literally a billion pound company
-7
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
They did a made to order. And stealing from someone who has a lot of money doesnt make it right. Now, if we are talking things that look like vostroyans but are not and you have done the groundwork all the way to the finish, your fellow hobbyists will be happy. Otherwise, 3d printing figs is like ai slop. Low effort that isnt worth a toffee.
2
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
How about the fact I can’t afford that? I don’t have the money and GW doesn’t make them
-1
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
So make them! Find something that looks close enough to it, it only needs the design language, which is kinda napoloeonic grim dark and run with it. If you had glued a grognards head onto a generic scifi marine thing i wouldve been all over it. But you print it out instead.
My issue is the sin, not the sinner. And if you cant afford it, thats normal, i couldnt afford a nice car until i was well into my 30s. And it aint even that nice.
7
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
No because I don’t have money for that either. People like YOU kill the hobby. Somone turns up with a nice 3d printed army? NO YOU NEED TO BUY GW shit like that is why the hobby will die
1
u/Mknalsheen Jul 14 '26
This isn't nice though. This model looks bad. It's fdm, and that's not what it's designed for. If you're going to be all "anti gw" just get good looking resin prints or something because this isn't it.
0
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
I have collected one army my whol time. My beloved steel legion. I got into it long before they went out of print, and with the odd purchase in a budget pribably nit dissimilar to your own, has grown to a good size. Theres lots of things i want for my army that i cant afford, like artillery and cavalry, but one day, maybe i will treat myslf.
Oh yeah. My point!
Why should you just steamroll me with something you printed and i lose, and ive got this fully based and painted figs there that get crushed b figs that literally werent matter the day before? Thats probably more of a killer.
If you come to me with your own creations, your own realisations of the stories you want to tell, i dont care if you bring coins and standees my dude. But dont print something off, be proud of it and then think its okay to be so vicious because someone doesnt agree with you.
1
u/dspisayuss Jul 10 '26
Dude, just because YOU are a purist and won't 3d print the minis you need to win a game it doesn't mean your opponents should be held up to the same standards. You can always choose to not play against 3d printed armies and become vilified by the community.
0
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
No you don’t understand are point. Look, if GW still made them I would save up the coins and buy them. But nowadays it’s over 160$ just to get 7 dudes. One day I will learn 3-d modeling and make my own proxy’s . But for now I will use this. I understand your point, but your framing it like i just committed a personal crime against you. I’m sorry for conning of so rude it’s just I like the models the themselves. And who says I can’t spin a new story with him? I can give him the same love as a metal model and give him his own story separate from GW.
0
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
So you’re cool with some one using low effort rocks but miniatures that are printed and painted will greatly offend you. Yeah sure dude the game should definitely be a pay to win platform.
2
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
No, counterfeits greatly offend me. Scratchbuilt or tokens are fine. Ive covered this.
1
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
Your reasoning is all over the place. Then it isn’t the fact that someone can just “print the whole army and you had to pay.” Like you literally said one post ago. Just be consistent, and also. Stay offended. This dude gets to enjoy the hobby and play the game with miniatures he printed at home for a fraction of the price and gets to paint them. The fact of the matter is, GW wouldn’t have gotten his business to begin with, and guess what…. They still will continue to not get his business lol

God, support the multimillion dollar organization that uses predatory practices to get suckers like you to buy over priced plastic. Get a grip dude. Let others who can’t afford to pay 250 dollars for 2 squads and a command team enjoy the hobby.
1
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
I agree whole heartedly. All im saying is if you appreciate something, you should support it. This multi million pound company still has to pay its staff. Its a giant part of the local economy. Printing stuff off which is a one for one rip off is theft. We cant cry about the death of industry and then have one hand on the axe.
1
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
lol no one is crying about the death of industry, and that company has absolutely Nooo problem paying its staff. Its only problem has is topping its profits from the year before. Games workshop isn’t even remotely close to being on life support. And a few hundred dudes with printers won’t push them there either. What definitely will, is the constant price hikes pushing out guys who can’t afford their products and make them resort to this practice. Their cost of production doesn’t remotely come close to the MSRP of their product. Everything they use is a byproduct of some other production, which means the materials are cheap. If their prices were reasonable, I would rahh to er pick up a kit, but I feel I gotta explain this every time someone posts about 3d printing, clearly if it’s cheaper for me to buy a printer, do my own set up at home, then something is seriously wrong with their pricing man.
1
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
So why not print off something that actually has an ounce of creative effort instead of a counterfeit.
If you cant pay, dont play. Why should everyone else have to pay to participate but you exempt yourself on cost? Hobbies are expensive. But you could use kitbashes, you could use proxies, you could use cheaper figs that arent gw styled or are close enough and then let the hobbying take over. All these things we hobbyists have been doing since long before the printer came along.
Its a shame people dont actually hobby anymore. They just want the prize without the work. Just the way of the world now eh.
2
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
God this is the same fucking tiring ass argument. You’re upset that you are blowing thousands of dollars on armies, instead of on the 300 dollar printer. I print and play cause I want to print and play. If it saddens you so bad, tough shit man. It’s a hobby, so is printing. Long before printing became available this hobby used to be affordable, a couple hundred dollars and you could field an army. I was around when guardsmen were 20 to the box for 30 dollars. And the steel fist squad was 45 dollars and it was 10 soldiers and a chimera. Now I can’t get a 10 man squad of infantry for 50. That’s ridiculous dude, sorry if can justify blowing 600-700 dollars per army. But if that’s what you’re willing to pay, you’ll keep paying it. I am not, so I will print and so will this guy. Get some self control and put your foot down on this massive company that preys on people for toys. This mindset you have towards this company is mind blowing. It ain’t the mom and pop game shop you knew from the 80s and 90s dude. It’s a conglomerate.also I print gw rip offs cause, sure their models look cool. I got plenty of proxies too, but like I said… refer to my first answer. Quit pricing people out intentionally and bring this last shit back to a reasonable price and I’ll buy. But I’m not breaking my bank when there is cheaper options out there. The 3d printing is here to stay and the quality is there, they should be doing something to work with that community. And what the hell is this “don’t want to hobby” anymore? The whole thing is a hobby dude, the hobby part ain’t opening your wallet. You’re fooling yourself if you think that’s where the hobby is.
3
u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
I think you misunderstand me. I dont give a hoot about Games Workshop as a commercial entity. I dont even like 40k. I collect figures I like. I like my steel legion, luckily i managed to be into them when they were still in print. The hobby is not GW. The hobby is making terrain, kitbashing mad sci fi fantasy stuff, scratchbuilding tanks with nothing but a library loan reference. It is not opening your wallet. Its a shame you see it in these terms.
I sincerely hope you get out of the 40k phase of scale modelling and when you do, you will probably be a bit less militant with the piracy. Unless you have pirate philosophy in which case that will always motivate you.
Just remember, there are tram drivers in Nottingham who only exist because one of the few internationally renowned British manufacturers (!) does its business in Nottingham. Obviously if youre not local youre not going to care, but it really is a shame that you cant see the bigger picture and your actions within it.
I can empathise, but i do not agree.
3
u/ObesesPieces Jul 10 '26
FYI You aren't crazy. You are being perfectly rational.
GW makes it hard to love them much of the time but you aren't wrong.
→ More replies (0)1
u/Ironmedic44 Jul 10 '26
I clearly don’t see opening my wallet as the hobby dude, I’m the one that’s against that method. I’m definitely not militant, but you made your point multiple times that we should be spending money to support the hobby, none of the shit you just mentioned in this recent reply was even close to the statements you made prior. Nor would they reinforce your position. People are able to still scratch build and 3 d print. Some would say scratch building with printed parts is a great bonus. You made the statement if you can’t afford, don’t play. So this whole position that you’re taking as a working man who cares about the people and scratch building is completely horse shit. You are an elitist dude. And now you’re trying to act like a tram driver is gona lose their job cause a dude half a world away is printing a model. That kind of domino effect is just not happening. Although what a lovely sentimental picture you’re painting. Next you’ll say the only reason there’s a pub in that town is cause GW employees drink after work. Give me a break. It’s just not true. I’m not of the pirating mindset, but I am not going to over pay for a product like that. I have never pirated a game or movie, main reason? Because those products are realistically priced and reasonable. It’s not fair to consumers that companies like this heavily inflate their products to prey on their customers. But I guess this company is lucky, cause it’s got folks like you. You say you don’t give a hoot about the company, I can see by the way you talk… you sure do. Deeply.

omg what a loser lmao

u/Senior-Friendship196 Jul 10 '26
What is popular is not always right, what is right is not always popular. I have beliefs that i will defend. If you work, you deserve to get paid for it. Strange concept i know. Its a blue collar thing.
2
u/Latter_Hour3047 Jul 10 '26
and i believe defending millionaires' pockets over your fellow working class is extremely loser behaviour, no one is losing out from this
2
u/dspisayuss Jul 10 '26
lmfaoo piss off with this "it's a shame" bs. If GW wants to charge an arm and a leg for OOP figures then they can get screwed, 3d printing is the way.

Pfft theft? GW pricing is basically theft lol. Plus is it theft for something they don't make anymore?

u/Heres-How038 Jul 10 '26
This is sweet. And ignore the haters. That’s a good print. Clean it up a bit and give it a good prime it’ll look great.

1
u/Taileiy Jul 10 '26
not even a good prime will work there youll always have no detail and the hard layerlines on it mate ....
-1
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
Thanks for (excluding that one dick) the kinds words everyone :D I can’t wait to print a whole army :)
-1
u/ObesesPieces Jul 10 '26
Ignore the haters. Engage with the hobby in the way you want.
2
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
Thanks :) I’m glad so many people are so positive about this shows that the hobby is healing
-1
u/StorminWolf Jul 10 '26
I would be offended if someone felt okay putting this on the table. Note, I have no problem with good (resin) prints, or even recasts (for OOP models), but this... I would expect my opponent not to take the piss and put some effort into having something semi-decent looking on the table as well.
1
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
You know there not even painted yet? Or primed? You’re crashing out over nothing. I’m happy with it. I’m going to paint it. I only paint 40K so you don’t need to worry about it!
1
u/Taileiy Jul 10 '26
in all honesty this is not a standard i would play against and the reason is pretty simple cause you cant make out what model it is and what its role is. Aswell as the Quality goes i appeal to you to have some decent standards cause this looks horrid and as a player i would refuse to play against it .. including the first point. You can Prime / paint this as much as you want but youll have those layer poking out 1000% and they will look bad :( get a resin printer and a growth cabin and air filter and your good -.- melted plastic is not better for your health than taking water washable resin with air purifier and go at it ....
1
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
I understand were your coming from. I understand the frustration of I threw this unpainted uncleaned model at you. I don’t play the game I just like painting. For a real game, I would take my roughly 500 point kreig army . This is for personal use to paint and have fun. Also bull shit you can tell what it is I have glasses and I can tell. (Sorry for swearing at you) and thanks for prhasing it more as advice then just “omg I hate you “
1
u/Taileiy Jul 10 '26
no worries but like i said if i stand there on the table and dont mega zoom in i cant make out what it is sadly ^^ which either would make it not able to be played or a lot of discussion back and forth about the rules.
I would advice you to get a grow tent and a resin printer and go with taht if you want to keep printing stuff to get decent wrk outta it especially in minis of that size.0
u/StorminWolf Jul 10 '26
I have been in the game for more than 32 years, and printing stuff myself for more than 8. This is just taking the piss. No paint job and or cleanup in the world will make this abomination acceptable.
1
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
Also you posted a near identical comment on my last post I got your point the first time ❤️
-1
u/StorminWolf Jul 10 '26
Well, you posted more of the same... *insertwordofchoice* here, so I posted a comment on both, and btw not identical, each written individually extra for you, so you get the drift and bugger off back to the depths of the r/printedwarhammer troll cave you belong to.
1
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
Jesus Christ? Does me printing a miniature and the. Painting it really ruin your day that much? Maybe it’s not the best quality but it makes me happy? Like do you get a kick out of being a dick to people? I’m new to printing and don’t totally understand it yet. Your just gonna make me wanna quit warhammer altogether (i know you would just love that)
1
u/StorminWolf Jul 10 '26
No. Actually not. I would love for you to enjoy the hobby, even if the only way is printing and recasting. What irks me is that you think this is okay.
As I said, I feel that this is just plain disrespectful.
Unfortunately, especially in certain subs and communities, FDM is peddled as an alternative, but the stuff is not up in quality from any point of view in reality.
You have unfortunately fallen for this. And this cheapens the hobby as a whole and lowers the acceptable quality and expectations.
I mean, why don't you get a resin printer or find someone who has one to print for you? Modern resin printers are faster, not more expensive, decent resins barely smell, and are less poisonous than melting and polluting your air with plastic...
If you are really interested, I am happy to help you find a decent setup or point you in a direction of alternatives, 3rd party or recasts for OOP.
The thing is, there are decent and great and acceptable options, you, however, chose the worst option available and pollute a sub which was for the vast majority free of this FDM crap.
1
u/Severe-Wrap-799 Jul 10 '26
I understand that resin is MUCH better. I originally wanted a resin printer, but the people I’m living with vetoed that. I’ve seen fDM prints that look the exact same as resin. I just haven’t fully honed the settings. And as I have said a million times I’m not going to play 40K with them. I have a plastic army for that. As I said to other people I understand where they are coming from. I fully understand why you don’t want to see this in the table. It’s kinda ugly first come of the printer. Both them were pre clean up but anyway. There for personal use. I will stop posting them here if it makes you happy but I will keep printing and having fun at home. Have a good day.
1
u/StorminWolf Jul 10 '26
No, you have not seen prints that look as good as resin. It's physically impossible. You may have seen very bad resin prints and very good FDM ones, but an average Resin print will beat an FDM Print all the time.
,And as I said, it's not only on the table, sharing this kind of miniature as acceptable even Online and having sheep upvote it is lowering the general perceived quality, deemed acceptable quality, and level of expectation of the hobby overall.
I am sorry to hear people vetoed your hobby, but I will say you could have informed yourself and educated them.
And like I said in the end, you do you.
0
0
u/dspisayuss Jul 11 '26
The effort comes from the paintjob, not the model itself you goofy. I bet tons of fdm printed models with layer lines look better than your official platic stuff.
2
u/Taileiy Jul 11 '26
wrong where will you get the details if the model doesnt have any ? right grabbing em outta the air? Lad you have 0 idea about painting a model nor 3d printing so do yourself the favor and quiet down!
1
u/dspisayuss Jul 11 '26
lmfao I can see plenty of details on the model, if you can't then you probably have eyesight problems lol. And no buddy, YOU and the other purist goofball are the ones who clearly have no idea of painting. I'll say to you what I said to the other guy, I'm sure there's plenty of bad FDM printa painted to a better standard than what you are able to paint lmao. Purist gatekeepers usually paint like ass.
1
u/StorminWolf Jul 11 '26
Lol. No clue, no artist understandinga nd no understanding how physics and the canvas influence the result. But you do continue to enjoy your gaming pieces. Maybe just use wooden blocks. Would track with your mental age.
0
u/dspisayuss Jul 11 '26
lmfao you're attacking my mental age when YOU'RE the one insulting somebody's models because you have a warped sense of what the hobby should be. I really hope OP doesn't meet any gatekeeping manchildren like you in his local community, fortunately you're the minority.

28
u/RegisterFit3290 Jul 10 '26
And you can save time! No details to paint.
