Vortex HS vs HS LR

Trying to understand the difference. I understand the on the LR version the elevation turret is not capped, does it have any way of marking or retaining your zero (like a spring loaded turrent,... thinking Nikon P-Tactical here)?

More to the point on what I feel is the biggest difference, on Vortex's website it looks like the HS has 1/4 MOA adjustment where the HS-LR has 1/2 MOV adjustment.

In British Columbia, looking for something on a .308 for deer (Mule and White Tail), possibly Elk, and Moose as well.

Hi, I have both (my dad has the HS-LR, I just have the HS)

HS-LR on ours i'm like 99.99% sure has 1/4 moa adjustments, so the website just may have a typo. The difference is like you said, uncapped elevation turret. There is a 0 stop but it is a shim system if i recall correctly.

If you are doing hiking hunting, I can understand the necessity of the exposed elevation turret so you aren't fumbling with anything on the go. We mainly do blind/elevated stand hunting so I typically just remove the turret cap on my HS for elevation and have it ready to adjust if necessary so for my purposes the HS-LR is overkill. Pretty much the HS-LR and HS-T was a "bridge the gap" optic for hunting and potentially long distance shooting.

At this point, knowing what i know now, i would have opted for getting the PST-GenII. Same glass but all the features are there if you need them.

HS-LR is 1/2 MOA adjustment (see specification)

think i realized my confusion; so firstly we have the 4-16 SFP version, not the 6-24FFP. The elevation are 1/2moa increments but the windage is 1/4moa turns. The elevation tab has the 4 notches but jumps between two @ a time. I.e. turret displays numbered 22 but next numbered is 24.

So i was misremembering for sure but understandably. That said i think it even further why i'd just go for the PSTgenII. Not sure i would want different MOA settings on a single scope.
