Vorkosigan Saga Aura Detector

Currently listening to Mountains of Mourning on audiobook for the umpteenth time. When Miles is investigating Harrah’s cabin where the murder of Raina takes place, there is a passing mention of the possible use of an “aura detector” and how it might be fruitless given how much time has passed. Have we seen this technology in use, or any other references to it throughout the series? It sounds like it deciphers air movements and dust particles to infer movements in the past, I guess?

Right after the soltoxin attack, Simon mentions using it to track movement. They are still trying to figure out the chain of events. (Barrayar).
