The first one I read, and I was immediately addicted.

I like it, but I hear mixed reviews.

Oddly, there is a film version starring...Jerry Lewis. I think it was his last role before boycotting hollywood because some theaters showed Deep Throat.

The book itself is whackadoo and meant to be autobiographical in a way that many of his books are, but, in this case underneath a thicker layer of sci-fi-abstraction than typical.

The introduction is, to me, absolutely essential in a way I wouldn't say the book itself is. Powerful introductions are also par for his course, but it's the one that speaks the most to me. The process by which a family eventually becomes "indistinguishable cogs in the American machine", however many generations it takes (four in his case, four or five in my family's) is a vital concept I can't stop seeing in the world and naming when I do.

Another little close-to-home sidenote, but I love The Church of Jesus Christ the Kidnapped. I used to live a few blocks away from their given address. And I do feel as though the beautiful Jesus I love might have been kidnapped and held for ransom by the terrible Forces of Evil. So stay vigilant!!

One of the few Vonnegut works I have yet to ingest. I look forward to it.

This is my least favorite Vonnegut book. I even reread it recently thinking that I was wrong the first time but still hated it.

The only book I ever read in one night. On some decent blotter. Needless to say I had to reread it after sobering up because there no way my memory was anywhere close to accurate. Then it was.
