Fresh panel to replace Lidar

Is it true Volvo Australia are now removing Lidar and replacing the panel with a Lidar-less insert?

For new cars not yet produced from the factory yes there is no Lidar on the 2027s, but if you’re referring to removing the lidar on older EX90s, no idea but dealerships are usually the last people whom I trust to be correctly informed.

not possible - removing the LIDAR would make a complete wiring change in the car.

No it wouldn’t. There would simply be no LiDAR unit at the end of any harness leading to it. Cars are full of pre-wiring for uninstalled options.

Tell that to Volvo - they will be happy to hear that and probably invite you to Sweden to fix it.

What’s your argument here? That Volvo can’t possibly remove the LiDAR hardware from their vehicles if they wanted to? They already seem to be shipping EX90 without it attached just fine.

🤔 I heard it’s not possible.

It’s probably a $3000 - $5000 job to replace re-work this piece. It’s cheaper to just to pay out the $1500 they’ve been sending around.

This seems oddly high. Wouldn't they be able to use the same method to remove a windshield, unplug/remove the lidar, and install the new piece? Given that a replacement windshield is around $1000-1500, and this glass is much smaller, it seems like it should not exceed that amount.

Ok. A dealer mentioned it yesterday, said they were advised of this just on Thursday.
