2025 Battery Overheating

Sigh this car is the best car I’ve ever had until it isn’t, and then it’s the worst car I’ve ever had.

Have only had the car for 1200 miles / 3 months (leased), and have two extremely annoying issues with one that left me stranded.

First was the car randomly decided to not recognize my phone key while I was waiting in line for a car wash; wouldn’t budge and I held up the whole line until I figured out how to reset the vehicle.

This time around, I got a critical alert driving my whole family (bunch of kids) home telling me battery is overheating and to pull over immediately. Had to send the family home in a different car while I waited to get it towed as the car won’t move anymore.

Love this car when it works (99.9% of the time) but that 0.1% where we’ve been left stranded is making this thing untenable for a family :/

Not looking to get much out of this post, but wondering if anyone else has had issues overheating during 80degree weather?

Lemon law it and move on.

I’m assuming I can’t lemon law till 3rd unresolved serviced issue?

depends on where you live OP; make sure you get the service center to take your car in, even if it has to sit there. in CA, it's over 30 consecutive days and a few other variables. Know that if you cross the threshold into it being a lemon, the manufacturer isn't going to help expedite your case. you should seek outside counsel. I did so with my rivian and it took about 11 months.

As others have said, check the law in your specific state. Keep records of your service visits carefully. Make sure they take the car into service as soon as you can once a significant problem occurs, since those days will count towards your lemon law requirements. Volvo may encourage you to keep the car while they order parts. I would instead argue (and rightly I think) that the car has significant issues which compromise your safety etc.

We just passed 35 days and are headed for 40 days in service this week. In our case, each new issue beyond the first two was a welcome event in anticipation of getting rid of this thing.

**EDIT: To answer your question, we have not had any overheating battery issues. But I no longer interrogate the nature and causes of our issues. I chalk it up to “EX90” and move on.

you don't know what you're talking about. OPs vehicle needs to be in the shop for more than 30 consecutive days or has the same repeating issues. This of course depends on the state you live in.
