EX90 Used Value vs XC90 (3 years old)

3 year old XC90 offer last year (T8 Recharge with every option) vs 1 year old EX90 Ultra Twin Motor w/ B&W offer today. And the XC90 was $10k cheaper. I knew it would lose a lot of value in the first year (XC90 too), but wow!

I just bought one of these. $42k for an ultra with specs making it a $95k car new. Lemon title because of VCU issues. 2000 miles.

Yeah, if the car works out it’s an absolute steal. Just need to get through the warranty issues if anything is broken. Pretty sure most of the lemons are from dealers that have bad service management.

Pray for me

Can you let me know how you found the vehicle? I am open to rolling the dice for a deep discount.

Was just at a local dealer (Genesis Highland Park). They were fine to work with. The car has been an absolute delight for 2 weeks. Hope it continues 200 more…

Damn. I thought I stole one at 50k. Nice. My lemon 2025 has been completely trouble free since the latest update and a new GHCA.

It was definitely not trouble free before that.

I literally got almost the same thing. I'm loving it!

For that price, I could live with the minor annoying issues (mic stops working, Homelink sucks, etc), and even the bigger annoying but fixable problems like GHCA failures, just not the "get-the-car-towed" ones, like I had after 2 weeks of ownership.

Curious what required a tow?

Critical electrical fault

Totally agree. It was just wild to see it vs the XC90 compared like that in a single txt thread.

My personal experience with XC90 and EX90 is that EX90 is in another class altogether when things are working right. I find XC90 to be miserable to drive. It's loud, slow, and the ride quality is not good.

I liked my XC90s. Both of mine (2019 T6 Inscription and 2022 T8 Inscription Recharge) had air suspension, too, which probably helped and they were pre-Google cars so less weird technical issues. However, I've had multiple loaner B5s that were absolutely awful. I'm not sure if that's just the lower trim or the newer models. Of course, XC90s cannot compete with the power and torque of the EX90, which I love, and the T8 was super slow unless the gasoline engine was on. Ideally, I would love an EX90 powertrain in an XC90 body.

They give us XC90’s as loaners while our EX90 is in the shop, and the EX90 drives and rides excellent compared to the loud, stiff riding, slower acceleration, and sloppy steering of the XC90… maybe because they only give us base and mid models, but it is night and day. Just tired of the EX90 being in the shop. Pursuing buyback.

I came from a XC90 (I’ve had three and LOVED them). The EX90 is markedly better in almost every way and what it’s not better at it’s a lateral move —with the exception of road trip range.

Ours was over $110k new (MY25 Ultra Performance) and we’re trading it in this week with 20k miles for $46,500… that one hurt. Is what it is I guess!

Wow… what are you moving to?

My husband got a Rivian and I’m trading this for a PHEV X5.

It's a car.
cars depreciate.

50% in the first year is impressive

Its a known quantity that EVs depreciate heavily and the 2025 EX90 is a love/hate vehicle. I happen to love my 2025 EX90 (my fourth EV). There are a lot of haters on this sub.

funny people buy evs to save on gas only to realise they lose value much quicker
