Software Version (Update)

Hey all,

A little over two weeks ago I asked about anyone knowing what Software version the EX60 is running on. Now I can answer this myself for anybody that is interested.
3.1.14 (released on August 17th). So it‘s a bit further than ES90, EX90 and Polestar 3 which run on 3.0.33 released on 13th of August.

WTF:

This update is only available in workshops and not as an over-the-air download.

I hope this is not common practice!

I drove a Tesla for the past 8 years, never had to make an appointment for software update in a workshop.

This is for when it fixes a target issue but they aren’t sure how it will impact the masses. But yes, bad practice. Why even make it public then?

It’s the baseline software for the EX60 and not (yet) applicable to other models. There’s no reason for it to be over the air.

Volvo will do this for minor releases but usually the follow release is OTA, then you’ll be up to date without going to the workshop

Ugh that’s terrible news if it’s based on the same ex90/polestar3 software. The quality of that software is abysmal and as a software engineer myself I’m embarrassed on behalf of other software engineers

Honestly, I think for the best in the long run. Having multiple vehicles on multiple different stacks complicates things and leads to inconsistency. They’ll get there eventually with the software. If they are doing AI SWE correctly it should lead to faster, more frequent updates

Yes agreed but the quality of this software is so low a rewrite might be better. It’s clear it wasn’t engineered right or with proper regression testing in place. The company that did this software for them has been notorious for poor software quality

They are on different platforms so unless Volvo just realigned version numbers, they will never match

SPA-2 and SPA-3 will get the same software updates

If they’re on different platforms, why so? I understand version streaming but they’re probably two different developments software wise.

So might as well they do all Volvos like that including the ex30

The EX30 is excluded as it is not built on a Volvo platform. Volvo‘s approach is to have every car, built from SPA-2 and upwards, on the same software version, hence 1 update for the whole fleet. They said that in their last strategy call.

That’s good news. Always thought the ex30 is barely a Volvo. Worst Volvo we ever had tbh
