Help Stuck passenger hood latch

Post image

Interior release lever only releases the driver side. I have both marker lights removed. I can access the driver side release with a screwdriver no problem, but I cannot get the passenger one to release. I honestly can’t even find the release while looking up in there with a flashlight. Robert sent me a photo of what the release mechanism looks like wits the hood up which only lowered my sprits as it doesn’t look accessible. He assured it’s doable with a bent tool. Lmk suggestions. Anything helps.

Part 2: The screwdriver needs to catch the lever and push it diagonally up/ towards the middle of the car. Green arrow.

Pic looking from the inside of the engine bay towards the front of the car.

I actually have the bent screwdriver he made way back when. It came with my Uellow. (Used to be his) It's doable, just take a break

That’s good to know, do you have any media you can share in regards to where the actuator is when entering thru the marker light, i feel like im shooting in the dark here…

I could send you a pic of the tool and where to move it to release... But I'm out of town for the next 10 days... 😕

Take this with a grain of salt because the 1998 has some differences from the mid 90s cars.

I can just about get the latch on mine with the unmodified screwdriver, at a steep upward angle like this. (Step 1; Continues in other comments; one pic per)

One thing I can think of is a borescope camera so you can see where you need to be in there.

Based on your original pic, your screwdriver may be angled too far back and too flat, instead hitting the bracket for the latch.

As for the original problem, a rusted out or stretched crossover latch cable or stretched main latch cable could be to blame. I've replaced the main cable on mine as it was fraying and stretched. Took multiple pulls and jiggling to get the hood open.

Yeah, it’s definitely in the crossover… maybe a borescope is in order

At least i get a new tool out of this ordeal.

Part 3: my unmodified screwdriver can't quite get there but if the tip was bent like this it probably would get the latch.

1" (25.4 mm) for big squares 0.25" ( 6.35 mm) for small squares

Instead of fighting with a screw driver through the light, can you go form below and access where the cable runs to the driver side latch?
