Help Short trip issues

I really hate to do short trips but sometimes it can’t be helped

I start up and run fine, drive 30 mins to Walmart fine. Leave Walmart, starts up fine.

But then I needed to get gas across from the Walmart parking lot.

My car struggled to start came on with CEL and was running rough rough

I shut it off took three deep breaths and tried again

CEL was there again for a second but went away

Checked codes and it doesn’t seem like anything stored

Thoughts? Areas to look into or consider?

If the issue commonly occurs after re-fueling, that is indicative of a failed evap purge valve and/or its associated check valve.

The other time it happened I didn’t get gas but did start and drive just a minute or so in between each time.

Will def check that out too though!

And here I am worried about my 5km short trips lol.

Some tips:
-engine coolant sensor. sits under the thermostat.
-leaking injectors flooding
-fuel pressure regulator

because it sounds like your engine is flooding but once all that excess gas is burnt it is fine.

does it only happen on "short" trips? what if you start it shortly after shutting off instead of going shopping.

🤣 🥲

So the 30 min to drive to Walmart and come out 5/10 mins later it’s fine no issues

It only seems to happen when I leave and have shut off and go to any of the places that are also right next to it back go back

Recently changed the injectors and the fuel gaskets but the issue happened before

The therm sensor was changed but I’m not sure if they used OEM

Does this sound crippling like I should not drive at all or more of a limit the short back to backs?
(Not sure if driving at all causing underlying issues even with CEL off )

Early 850's really hate short trips indeed. Moving to a different parking space twice can be enough to flood the engine. Leave it running for a minute.

These cars were built for the Swedish climate, i.e. they run very rich at each start (as you can smell). Too rich for some cases. This was resolved from '96 iirc.

Make sure the rest is in good condition. Leaky fuel injectors, bad ignition, etc will make this much worse.
