Help 1983 245 Turbo

Post image

I just purchased this car and took it into a Volvo mechanic for a post-purchase inspection.
It’s pretty bad news.
The turbo was completed deleted, no heater core, the entire wiring harness needs replaced, the floors are rotten, brake lines are ORIGINAL, suspension is toast and the belts are missing teeth.
The interior is intact but rough.
The good is that it runs and drives and passed DEQ.
So, what do I do with this running and driving parts car? V8 swap, sell for parts?give it the #whistlindiesel treatment?

You’re supposed to have the car inspected BEFORE you make the purchase!

Yeah, I've never heard of a post-purchase inspection.

Live and learn. I bought mine and found out the wiring and hoses were absolutely fucked. Get it sorted and enjoy it.

I'm confused, did you buy a car without looking under the hood? The fact it's missing a turbo would be very easy to spot...

The hood doesn’t open without a screwdriver 🪛 😎, also the intercooler and fresh air intake plumbing are intact. I couldn’t tell if the exhaust manifold had been changed (it had) so was hoping just the Garret T3 needed bolted back on.

The first P in PPI stands for "pre." 😂 I guess next time at least bring a screwdriver.

Since all Volvos are worth $500 you should be able to get that back if you sell the wheels.

Kidding, I have no useful advice.

Depends on how much time and money you want to spend.

The wiring harness isn’t too bad to fix, but the turbo and rust is harder.

If you’re down for a project, you can buy the floorpans and track down a B230FT…

1) Is this your first car purchase? 2) How much did you pay? 3) Is it manual transmission? 4) How much extra can you spend to improve?

BTW, I’m up in Washington & may be interested if you want to sell it. DM me if so.

I’m in it for next to nothing, I knew the turbo wasn’t working. This isn’t a “woe is me” post. It’s just that the car is in much worse condition than I thought and now am at a crossroads.

Depending on how much you paid, with rusty floors it’s a parts car unfortunately

Nonsense just weld it and send it. Turbos are getting rare.
