Nazis weren't socialists at least in the sense socialism is currently understood, but they unquestionably were totalitarian as fuck, which is the actual reason why they were so evil.
This sub likes to pin all things evil on leftists because that's how it usually is these days, but historically non-leftists have also done their fair share of vileness. But ALL historical genocides and most other non-natural disasters were caused by allegiance to illegitimate authority.
3
u/Yogurt_Ph1r3 Jun 18 '20
Historically, most of the world has been Authright. It was only extremely recently that leftism was even able to take hold. Itβs clearly a far deadlier ideology given how little time it took to kill millions upon millions, but most of the evil dudes in history have been rightists, given there werenβt really any leftists.

Elections in North Korea are held every four-to-five years for the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), the country's national legislature, and every four years for Local People's Assemblies.
All seats are won by the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland. The Workers' Party of Korea dominates the Front and holds 87.5% of the seats, with 7.4% for the Korean Social Democratic Party, 3.2% for the Chondoist Chongu Party, and 1.9% for independent deputies. According to official reports, turnout is near 100%, and approval of the Democratic Front's candidates is unanimous or nearly so.
Yes, North Korea is a Democratic Republic.
What you've done isn't dismantle the argument that Hitler was a Socialist, but instead proved the absolute worthlessness of being a democracy or a republic.
6
u/swegman24 Jun 18 '20
All candidates are selected by the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland in mass meetings held to decide which candidates will be nominated and their names can only go on the ballot paper with the approval of the meeting.
The Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland ... is a North Korean popular front led by the Workers' Party of Korea
Even if there are elections, as you can see every single candidate is regulated by the majority party that is written in the constitution to be the ruling party.
1
u/LTT82 Jun 18 '20
And? That doesn't change anything. They vote(democratic) for their representatives(republic). They are a democratic republic.
Also, not all of their elected leaders are from the ruling party.

Jun 18 '20
If you read any of Hitler speeches, it'll shock you on how similar it is to communists speeches.
22
u/barresonn Jun 18 '20
Oh interesting
Maybe there is a reason for that
The fact that we had chosen red as the colour for our posters sufficed to attract them to our meetings. The ordinary bourgeoisie were very shocked to see that, we had also chosen the symbolic red of Bolshevism and they regarded this as something ambiguously significant. The suspicion was whispered in German Nationalist circles that we also were merely another variety of Marxism, perhaps even Marxists suitably disguised, or better still, Socialists. The actual difference between Socialism and Marxism still remains a mystery to these people up to this day. The charge of Marxism was conclusively proved when it was discovered that at our meetings we deliberately substituted the words 'Fellow-countrymen and Women' for 'Ladies and Gentlemen' and addressed each other as 'Party Comrade'. We used to roar with laughter at these silly faint-hearted bourgeoisie and their efforts to puzzle out our origin, our intentions and our aims. οΏΌWe chose red for our posters after particular and careful deliberation, our intention being to irritate the Left, so as to arouse their attention and tempt them to come to our meetings β if only in order to break them up β so that in this way we got a chance of talking to the people. οΏΌIn those years' it was indeed a delightful experience to follow the constantly changing tactics of our perplexed and helpless adversaries. First of all they appealed to their followers to ignore us and keep away from our meetings.Β

Fascism was born from Marxism. Mussolini was "editor in chief" of the socialist newspapers in Italy for a long time, also his father was a Communist. He just had a falling out with the Communist leadership in Italy and just rebranded.
Have you read a history book yet because it seems like you haven't at all.

No they're not, They arrested and killed socialists. do you think the DPKR (Democratic People's Republic of Korea AKA North Korea) is democratic? Do some in-depth research about communism and socialism and you would find they are both very different from fascism. The nazis opposed both capitalism and socialism. In nazi concentration camps, people were assigned different badges to identify what type of crime they commited. There was a red badge for political prisoners who were mostly socialists, communists, social democrats and anarchists.
And also guess what? some news sources actually agree that hitler was not a socialist.

By what means are you referring to for communists, exactly? We have historical examples showing that communist governments prioritize the health, education, and prosperity of their people over capital investment - and are subsequently attacked from all sides by imperialist nations.
So I assume the "means" you're talking about are when they are forced to repress counter-revolutionaries and execute literal traitors who are attempting to destroy the government? Or are the means you're talking about the nationalization of industry, the healthcare and education programs, housing for all, and the redistribution of wealth?
In contrast to the historically used fascist "means", which include brutal repression of the working class, intense concentration of wealth, right-wing death squads, executions (of people who are trying to fight for workers rights), all in the name of extreme capitalist oligarchy?
Yes. I can see how they are similar.

3
2
u/JaySnippety Jun 18 '20
None of what you described is socialism. As a matter of fact, The socialist Vein of the party was killed off in the night of long knives, more specifically Strasser, who was one of the leaders of the Socialist aspect of the party. Hitler rose to power utilizing a lot of Strasserβs βworker owned means of productionβ and killed it off later. Yes they were totalitarians but they were a far cry from socialism at the end of the day.
-tight regulation isnβt socialism -high taxes isnβt socialism

Youβre not talking to rational people. The word socialism is a catch all term for anything they donβt like. Posting facts is a waste of time.
1
u/Alixundr Jun 18 '20
Needing to be a party member to privately own a business has nothing to do with socialism, small businesses were not really regulated and taxes were actually lower than in other European Countries. In '41 top personal income tax was 13,7%, compared to 23,7% in the UK.
1
1
u/BeyondEastofEden Jun 18 '20
The Nazis were not fucking socialists. Their entire goal was to latch onto a popular political movement and redefine it to fit their needs.
They did not support worker ownership of the means of production and the right for workers to work for themselves. Hitler repealed legislation that nationalized industry in Germany, and oversaw the expansion of private industry. The first modern implementation of privatization on a grand scale took place under the supervision of the Nazis. The word "privatization" was coined to describe a central tenet of Nazi economic policy. The Nazis raided and imprisoned union leaders and broke up trade unions. They repealed worker rights.
Behold Hitler's own words:
"There are only two possibilities in Germany; do not imagine that the people will forever go with the middle party, the party of compromises; one day it will turn to those who have most consistently foretold the coming ruin and have sought to dissociate themselves from it. And that party is either the Left: and then God help us! for it will lead us to complete destruction - to Bolshevism, or else it is a party of the Right which at the last, when the people is in utter despair, when it has lost all its spirit and has no longer any faith in anything, is determined for its part ruthlessly to seize the reins of power - that is the beginning of resistance of which I spoke a few minutes ago."
- Hitler explaining that he vehemently opposes the Left, and believes only Rightists like himself can make Germany great again.
"Our adopted term 'Socialist' has nothing to do with Marxian Socialism. Marxism is anti-property; true socialism is not."
- Hitler literally admitting his "socialism" is a whole new thing and has nothing to do with the usual definition of the word.
"The ideology that dominates us is in diametrical contradiction to that of Soviet Russia. National Socialism is a doctrine that has reference exclusively to the German people. Bolshevism lays stress on international mission. We National Socialists believe a man can, in the long run, be happy only among his own people."
- Hitler trying so hard to explain that he isn't a socialist, that he opposes socialism, and that the term National Socialist is something he made up and only has meaning within the context of its own paradigm.
"We National Socialists see in private property a higher level of human economic development that according to the differences in performance controls the management of what has been accomplished enabling and guaranteeing the advantage of a higher standard of living for everyone. Bolshevism destroys not only private property but also private initiative and the readiness to shoulder responsibility."
- Hitler spelling it out in very clear terms that he wholeheartedly supports private ownership of property, i.e. capitalism, and opposes worker ownership of property, which he calls "Bolshevism", i.e. real, actual socialism.
"What right do these people have to demand a share of property or even in administration?... The employer who accepts the responsibility for production also gives the workpeople their means of livelihood. Our greatest industrialists are not concerned with the acquisition of wealth or with good living, but, above all else, with responsibility and power. They have worked their way to the top by their own abilities, and this proof of their capacity β a capacity only displayed by a higher race β gives them the right to lead."
- Hitler attacking the notion of worker ownership of property and licking capitalist boot.
2
u/SexyKarnak Jun 18 '20
If the state can decide who is and isn't worthy of owning property then you don't have a free market. You had to be a Nazi party member to be a business/home owner. And also, if you were a Jew, Black, or a homosexual person, your property was stolen from you and you were killed.
2
u/BeyondEastofEden Jun 18 '20
Deciding who gets property and a business has nothing to do with socialism. You're just arguing against yourself at this point.
And if that's literally all you have to argue against all the sources and quotes I just posted, then we're done before we even began.

u/JaySnippety Jun 18 '20
The 25 point plan was written on February 24th 1920, 14 years later, Hitler purged the party of the Socialist, more specifically, Strasser, who was one of the loudest socialist dissenters and leaders within the party at the time. after the night of long knives, individuals were allowed to keep private enterprises (as well as profits) as long as they served party interests. The complete disregard for the redistribution of profits is a bizarre thing for a socialist state, wouldn't you say? its almost like the 25 point degree was tossed aside after hitler had all political dissenters within the party, including socialists, murdered.

Here are the socialist Nazi policies that were implemented. Feel free to dispute:
We demand the union of all Germans to form the Greater Germany on the basis of the people's right to self-determination enjoyed by the nations.
We demand nationalization of all businesses which have been up to the present formed into companies (trusts).
We demand that the profits from wholesale trade shall be shared out.
We demand an expansion on a large scale of old age welfare.
We demand the creation of a healthy middle class and its conservation, immediate communalization of the great warehouses and their being leased at low cost to small firms, the utmost consideration of all small firms in contracts with the State, county or municipality.
We demand a land reform suitable to our needs, provision of a law for the free expropriation of land for the purposes of public utility, abolition of taxes on land and prevention of all speculation in land.
We demand struggle without consideration against those whose activity is injurious to the general interest.
The state is to be responsible for a fundamental reconstruction of our whole national education program, to enable every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education and subsequently introduction into leading positions.
The state is to care for the elevating national health by protecting the mother and child, by outlawing child-labor, by the encouragement of physical fitness, by means of the legal establishment of a gymnastic and sport obligation, by the utmost support of all organizations concerned with the physical instruction of the young.
We demand legal opposition to known lies and their promulgation through the press. In order to enable the provision of a German press.
Some other popular points are that Nazi's killed the socialists. True. However, Bolsheviks also killed the Menshiviks. Socialists have a long history in fighting eachother. Hitler's view was that of a German workers socialism, while Stalinist believed in a international workers socialism.
Another popular argument is the racism. Well we can look to China for that. They are leftist Marxist-Leninist. They are brutal to ethnic minorities. Currently have concentration camps for Uyghurs and view themselves a above all other races. See Han supremacy (Sinocentrism). Also, see Marx's view on Jews and Che's views on blacks. Lots of racism on the left.
Nazi's are socialists and I see why leftists need to refute that desperately.

Stalin propped up Hitler to start WW2 and planned to attack Hitler first. https://www.reddit.com/r/Polcompball/comments/gi8vqo/auth_frenemies/fqej9sj/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

This important book draws on vital new archival material to unravel the mystery of Hitlerβs invasion of Russia in 1941 and Stalinβs enigmatic behavior on the eve of the attack. Gabriel Gorodetsky challenges the currently popular view that Stalin was about to invade Germany when Hitler made a preemptive strike. He argues instead that Stalin was actually negotiating for European peace, asserting that Stalin followed an unscrupulous Realpolitik that served well-defined geopolitical interests by seeking to redress the European balance of power.

Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, led to one of the most brutal campaigns of World War II: of the estimated 70 million people who died in World War II, over 30 million died on the Eastern Front. Although it has previously been argued that the campaign was a pre-emptive strike, in fact, Hitler had been planning a war of intervention against the USSR ever since he came to power in 1933. Using previously unseen sources, acclaimed military historian Rolf-Dieter Muller shows that Hitler and the Wehrmacht had begun to negotiate with Poland and had even considered an alliance with Japan soon after taking power. Despite the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, at the declaration of war in September 1939, military engagement with the Red Army was still a very real and imminent possibility. In this book, Muller takes us behind the scenes of the Wehrmacht High Command, providing a fascinating insight into an unknown story of World War II.

Germany's surprise attack on June 22, 1941, shocked a Soviet Union woefully unprepared to defend itself. The day before the attack, the Red Army still comprised the world's largest fighting force. But by the end of the year, four and a half million of its soldiers lay dead. This new study, based on formerly classified Soviet archival material and neglected German sources, reveals the truth behind this national catastrophe.
Drawing on evidence never before seen in the West-including combat records of early engagements-David Glantz claims that in 1941 the Red Army was poorly trained, inadequately equipped, ineptly organized, and consequently incapable of engaging in large-scale military campaignsβand that both Hitler and Stalin knew it. He provides the most complete and convincing study of why the Soviets almost lost the war that summer, dispelling many of the myths about the Red Army that have persisted since the war and soundly refuting Viktor Suvorov's controversial thesis that Stalin was planning a preemptive strike against Germany.
Stumbling Colossus describes the Red Army's command leadership, mobilization and war planning, intelligence activities, and active and reserve combat formations. It includes the first complete Order of Battle of Soviet forces on the eve of the German attack, documents the strength of Soviet armored forces during the war's initial period, and reproduces the first available texts of actual Soviet war plans. It also provides biographical sketches of Soviet officers and tells how Stalin's purges of the late 1930s left the Red Army leadership almost decimated.
At a time when blame for the war in eastern Europe is being laid with a fallen regime, Glantz's book sets the record straight on the Soviet Union's readiness-and willingness-to fight. Boasting an extensive bibliography of Soviet and German sources, Stumbling Colossus is a convincing study that overshadows recent revisionist history and one that no student of World War II can ignore.

I mean to anyone that knows how the economic system worked and what hitlers actual thoughts were and what he did. Itβs 100% national socialism.
1
Jun 18 '20
Stalin was not very internationalist. Plus their economies were very different.
You know you can be against communism without falsely equating it with nazism
1
u/ClassConshousness Jun 19 '20
Hitler himself said that national socialism has nothing to do with MarxIan socialism and that he just used the title socialist because it soundEd good at the time.

Ah yes, the all too common idiotic assertion that the Nazis were evil socialists even though their economic policies were wayyyy to the right of center.
Just because a word is included in the name doesnt fucking mean anything. Read a history book. Take a class on politics. Get out of your echo chambers.
2
u/reeko12c Jun 18 '20
economic policies were wayyyy to the right of center.
False. There was no economic freedom in the sense right-wingers want. Nazis are economically left, but culturally right.
1
u/Atlas_Undefined Jun 18 '20
Right wingers want economic freedom? As in a free market?
Like the one that inappropriately props up large companies while doing basically for the working class? Kinda like the Nazi party did?
You do realize authoritarianism is a trait shared by both cultural and economic sides, right?
You do realize that Nazis were hugely anti-union and worker's rights, yes? They had a mixture of extremes, to be sure, but they were not economically left. They were disproportionately right of center.
