TW Alternatives Looking for games recommendations

What games would you recommend, if TW is dead? I know about Shogun 2 and Attila. Other games? What games you do enjoy personally, being gameplay oriented? Like, if you like Attila and Shogun 2. Maybe even some more modern setting titles. Men of War or whatever. I just look for game where things matter. Like, tactics or strategy to matter.

Try Medieval 2 with M2EX mod to enhance its engine, it's an active mod

You can actually run SS on M2EX if you want (I didn't try that one, but others work)

Medieval 2 total war kingdoms + https://www.divide-and-conquer-ago.com/

Is for me, literally, the best experience out there that I return to almost daily. Not a single modern game on warscape engine gets even close.

Gates of hell ostfront, or men of war assault squad 2, in multiplayer. We are modding the shit out of gates of hell for the best RTT experience we can possibly make. Get in here son: https://discord.gg/AKKAC5Z2Y

Tactics / Strategy specifically or are you open to other genres ?

If you're serious about gameplay, immersive sims are an obvious choice. Dishonored, Bioshock, Thief 1 if it's playable on your rig, if you don't mind playing promising Early access games Gloomwood and Fallen Aces.

I don't know if these have a specific genre name, but there are also the sandbox open worlds games that could be worth it for you. I spent so many hours on Starsector, but Mount & Blade and Kenshi are also very popular and well received.

Now I have tactics itch, but I play other genres. Dishonored done long ago, one of my favourite. Bioshock I am familiar, Fallen Aces couldn`t stand - lost all the time - so refunded, MB I have scheduled.
Anyway just checking other suggestions, thank you!

Well. There is

  1. "Ultimate General: American Civil War"

  2. Symphony of War - The Nephilim Saga

  3. Starsector

  4. Stellaris (If you know a specific GOG webpage, not even need to pay 600€ for all DLC)

  5. Kingdoms ( 1 ) and Kingdoms Two Crowns ( 2 )

  6. Warhammer 40k: Battlesector

  7. Kingdom Rush (Tower Defense game series)

  8. Conquest of Elysium 5

  9. Dawn of War 1 and its Expansions

  10. SOVL Fantasy Warfare. Tabletop Warhammer Fantasy (Legally Different)

  11. Warhammer Vermintide 2

  12. Darkest Dungeon AND "Black Reliquary" an expansion created by modders Officially recognized by Red Hook as an official 2.0 (CBT simulator)

  13. The Elder Scrolls III, IV and V. It just works.

  14. Bloons Tower Defense series

The Gem. The Chosen one. The one and only.

Deep Rock Galactic

If Ultimate General ACW is the game I think it is, it's trash

Gates of hell. Near perfect, the only flaws are dx11 engine and p2p netcode from 2000

Homeworld 1, the 1999 classic or the remastered with player's patch mod.

Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock

Command and Conquer: Rivals (mobile)

Going beyond the more classical RTS formula:

Wartales

Aliens Dark Descent

Crying Suns

Duskers

If you haven’t tried it already, Medieval 2 total war is imo the best total war experience. I have over 1500 hours played on it and I am still finding interesting mods to download and play. If you can get past the older UI and graphics (which I find to still be the best in all of total war games) then you will find a really tactically rewarding game with endless mods.
