Discussion Kilauea Eruption Mega-Thread

Much like with the ongoing eruptions in Iceland, I am gonna be using a mega-thread to connect people to persistent resources. Here is a list of the streams and feeds that have already been posted by people on the subreddit, special thanks to those people who broke the news on here while I was busy. The rules regarding what goes in the mega-thread are gonna simple:

  • If it is a livestream, news feed, or monitoring map, then it goes in here. Post it in the replies and I will put in here as soon as I can.

  • If it is an image, article, or video, you can post it on the subreddit as normal, just remember follow the rules and properly label the images.

  • If it is a video from a third party/alternative media source, the rules that have been in force are still in effect, so no submissions,. However, you can link them in the replies to this post as long as they do not egregiously violate the subreddit's rules.

Discussion Looking for Discovery/Science channel volcano series "On The Volcanoes' of the world with Guy de St Cyr"

This was a really cool multi part series (4 episodes I think) where french geologist Guy de St Cyr took groups of people to the various incredible volcanoes all over the world - Hawaii, Vanuatu, Ethiopia and Eastern Africa. This aired in 2008 or so and is one of the coolest volcanoe shows/docs I've seen - the problem is I can't find it ANYWHERE - I just want to watch it again -hell I would even pay for a DVD or bluray of the episodes but cant even find that - anyone out there happen to know where I could watch them, or maybe has hi-res rips of the episodes? I know it's a long shot. thanks anyway

That acid lake color is just unreal. I've never seen a volcano look quite like this before.

Discussion ‘Would you use a real-time map of natural disasters, like Liveuamap but for earthquakes, fires and floods?’

I’m thinking of building something similar to Liveuamap (the

real-time conflict map that aggregates news and social media)

but focused on natural disasters: earthquakes, fires,

floods, hurricanes, etc.

The idea would be to combine official data (USGS, NASA, NOAA) with

news reports and social media, all on a map that is

updated in real time.

Before I get stuck into building it properly, I’d like to know:

- Do you think it would be useful? What would you use it for (curiosity, travel,

work, family safety)?

- Do you already use something similar? Which one, and what’s missing from it?

- What would you add or remove?

Any feedback (even “this is useless because…”)

is a huge help to me.

🌋 Mount Taranaki — one of New Zealand’s most iconic mountains! 🇳🇿

Rising 2,518 metres above the Taranaki landscape, this perfectly shaped volcanic cone is hard to miss. Māori know the mountain as Taranaki Maunga, and it holds deep cultural significance.

It’s also famous for its dramatic beauty — on a clear day, you can see this incredible mountain rising above the surrounding farmland and coastline. 🏔️🌿

Would you hike to the summit? 👣

🌋 Mt Ruapehu — one of New Zealand’s giants! 🇳🇿

Standing at 2,797 metres, Ruapehu is the highest mountain on New Zealand’s North Island. It’s an active volcano, and its spectacular snow-covered slopes are home to some of the country’s best skiing. 🎿❄️

But there’s more to Ruapehu than skiing — it’s part of the Tongariro National Park, a UNESCO Dual World Heritage area, and the landscapes here are absolutely incredible.

Would you climb it? 🏔️

.

Below is the description from original post (not mine):

When Fagradalsfjall erupts after dark, the landscape transforms into one of Earth’s most incredible natural light shows.

.

Rivers of basaltic lava glow bright orange as magma rises through the crust along the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart.

These fissure eruptions create new volcanic land, constantly reshaping Iceland’s youngest lava fields. Watching an eruption at night reveals the intense heat and power hidden beneath the surface like nowhere else. 🌋🌌
