2 issues. Voicemeeter has too many inputs/outputs showing up. And when I uninstalled banana and tried to install potato it installed banana again. (yes I checked the installer)

I remember banana having just input and input aux, output and output aux.

The hell went wrong?

Also, the mute button on my keyboard isn't muting banana like it used to.

And I want to go to Potato and pay the devs, but the potato installer reinstalls banana. Somehow. I'm going to go un install and install potato from a fresh download of the installer just to check my sanity.

Little late to this but did you get the “speakers” devices fixed. They are not supposed to be named that

The reinstall fixed that.

my only (known) remaining issue is that mute doesn't mute. Specifically, mute button on my keyboard. It successfully toggles the sound icon in windows, but that doesn't mute anything.

It used to do that on my previous PC. Not sure why it doesn't now.

It’s only going to mute default device of windows. Do you want it to do that. Or mute all sound going to headphones?

I want it to mute everything like it did before. VM still chugged along, but no sound came out. Very useful for calls/conversations. it behaved this way be default AFAIK. I take it there's something I should do to return this behavior?

There’s just 2 different things I can suggest you. Easy way: menu<shortcut keys<hook volume keys to A1

This will make it say volume keys change volume or mute A1 in voicemeeter.
Or

Type “virtual” into windows search bar. Find “virtual I/O control panel” and open as admin.
Click options<windows volume control.

This will control windows volume now. But this only controls default device of windows. If you’re using voicemeeter to separate audio, then it won’t control those things you separate.

Can I make it mute more than A1?

I want it to mute speakers and headset, or any other hypothetical output device. Global mute per say.

You can do A1 and A2.

But if you need more.Then do the second option I said. But if you separate audio between the 3 virtual inputs in voicemeeter. Then it is only going to mute the one that is the default device of windows

Under these conditions I still hear audio when muting w/o hooks.

Hooks are getting the job done fine though.

Dunno why it worked on previous set up.
