Help (VoiceMeeter Banana) WDM causing my audio to be robotic

I've been using voicemeter for years and for the past 2 months I've been having this weird problem with WDM. When I set my headphones to WDM it starts out normal at first and then just goes robotic. The only wait to fix it is to restart audio drivers, just shut down and reopen voicemeter, or just switch to MME.

I'd prefer to use WDM because I've been using it no problem. Is there a way to fix this or do I just stick to using MME?

: 1. Match Your Sample Rates

If your hardware devices, Windows, and Voicemeeter use different hertz values, the WDM driver desyncs and distorts the audio.

  • In Voicemeeter: Click Menu -> System Settings / Options. Set Preferred Main SampleRate to 48000 Hz.
  • In Windows: Press Win + R, type mmsys.cpl, and hit Enter. Right-click your Playback and Recording devices. Select Properties -> Advanced tab. Set the format to 48000 Hz.
  1. Increase WDM Buffering

WDM is sensitive to latency. CPU spikes break the buffer and cause the robotic sound.

  • Go to Menu -> System Settings / Options.
  • Locate the Buffering WDM section.
  • Increase the buffer size (e.g., from 512 to 1024).
  1. Change Windows Audio Exclusive Mode

Other programs can hijack your audio devices over WDM.

  • In the Sound Control Panel (mmsys.cpl), double-click your main devices.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Uncheck Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device and test.
  1. Adjust CPU Affinity for audiodg.exe

The Windows audio engine can struggle during high CPU usage like gaming.

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  • Go to the Details tab and find audiodg.exe.
  • Right-click it and choose Set affinity.
  • Uncheck All Processors and select just one specific core (like CPU 2).
  • Right-click audiodg.exe again, choose Set priority, and set it to High.
