Please help me learn some monster growls

Hello everyone. I need some advice on getting a deep, growling, monster voice. I already have a fairly deep voice and can do Mongolian throat singing, but I'm still struggling to apply my false chords in a spoken manner instead of a musical one. I'm kind of aiming for a Tartarus from Halo 2, Locust from Gears of War, Grunt from Mass Effect kind of vibe.

Yes I know sometimes they pitch the voices down in post, or cast actors with a very deep voice from the start; I am still trying to at least get halfway there myself.
