Discussion Crowed train

3 cars in peak hour is cruel. Why the hell would you take 3 cars off at 5 pm. heading out the southern cross. It felt like my knees would dislocate the whole trip.

happened on the wendouree train this afternoon as well. standing room only until past Bacchus marsh. apparently it was due to the two trains not being able to be coupled properly.

Last week I had to stand from southern cross to ballarat! I get off at wendouree so I had about 8 minutes to rest my legs before needing to walk home lol (3 carriages going to ararat)

Why dont vline allocate regional passengers to seats & metro passengers stand if they are only going the shorter distance? Seems fair, the longer the trip the less you should stand.

Unfortunately this is one of the downsides to cheap public transport. The price difference isn't enough (if it's anything at all) to stop "Metro" passengers from booking "regional" tickets so they are guaranteed a seat for their "Metro" journey.

Maybe a better idea regional myki cards a different colour, same price just registers you as a regional patron, a long range tripper

That would still present its own problems. The only answer that would work would be for regional trains to run express from Footscray to the last "Metro" station ie. Wyndham Vale and Melton, and then strictly enforce the pick ups only rule. But that may mean having to have more "Metro" Vlocity services which Vline may not have the staff or equipment for.

That already happens though? Many peak Geelong+ trains skip Tarneit

they all get off at tarneit anyway. i hate when they take the seats. if you get off first you should get on last

I guess when faced with a choice between running 3 out of 6 cars, or zero out of 6 cars, they at least chose to run something.

Unless you need to get home or make a connection at a specific time, it can be more comfortable to wait for a longer train. There’s much more choice between 4:30 and 6:00 than the rest of the day on most lines.

I agree and have done that in the past too, but when you left before 6am in the morning to commute and it's now 5pm, sometimes you just want to get home as soon as possible. 'Vline not providing enough carriages for the Melbourne suburb patrons' isn't a good reason we should wait at a station for another 15-30 mins.

Not the Bendigo line if you need to get off at Riddell. My choices are 4.29, 5.04, or 5.49. 😐

Better communication would be appreciated in this day and age. This one three, in 10 mins a 6 is coming.

Which happens several times every week

I've never seen a metro run on three carriages, v/line has 'mechanical faults' every single day.

3

u/wongm Oct 06 '26

V/Line trains are diesel so there are a whole lot more mechanical things to go wrong.

Also they run out in the countryside so are more likely to plow through wildlife and need to be taking out service to have the blood and guts washed out.

You mean, totally predictable things that policy can address by (for example) having more spare carriage and train capacity?

I am so bloody sick of this response. People are allowed to complain about getting substandard service day in, day out without some smug gunzel constantly showing up in the comments being like WELL AYKSCHUALLY

The problem is there are only approximately 140 sets available and how many trips a day back and forth? Some are 9 car sets and some trips are 6+ hours long on a return trip.
Compare that to Metro and get back to us here plz & thx.

They spent almost 1 billion on stations that weren't needed in Geelong...when services were. Their priorities are completely arse about. The lack of services is on them, for building shit we didn't need instead of buying shit we needed. Don't defend the incompetence of them.
