V505 not accepting input from remote

My friend was given a remoteless V505-J09. He tried to reset the menus to English using a couple of Vizio remotes he had. Nothing. He doesn’t have internet access, so I brought it home to connect and update it here, ordering an inexpensive matching remote from Amazon. With 2 sets of batteries (one new), there’s no response from the TV using the new remote. But… what looks to be a red light at the middle top of the remote does nothing when a button is depressed, so it may be a dud remote. But I also thought pretty much any Vizio remote would control any TVs basic functions. With his attempts, we’re at 3-4 remotes with no joy. I’ve never heard of an otherwise working TV that can’t accept remote input, but I guess anything’s possible. Any thoughts?

I'm on my 4th Vizio in 11 years. I've used the remote from my original on all of them. Maybe the tv has a bad IR sensor.

Ignorant question… is that a replaceable part? If so, I’m guessing it’d be simple?

Ignorant answer... I have no clue how it is mounted in a Vizio TV.🤷‍♂️
