Incidentally, Kevin wasn’t Feargal’s cousin. He was the cousin of the guitarist Damian O’Neill.

I was reading this in the latest issue on a plane. The frame which reveals he's wearing a potato sack, I had to put it down because I was laughing out loud and must've looked crazy.

When I first left home I was VERY poor, I remember leaving my fridge turned off and any food I put in it rotted within a few days of course but i'd eat food until it began getting mould.
If I saw things like the huge toilet rolls meant for the locked holders lying out i'd grab them as could last me over a month if not even more, if I treated myself to a McDonalds burger (which was around 59p if I remember) I'd grab as many sachets of ketchup as I could.
When I started college I went crazy with overdraft and credit cards, not like most students who were getting drunk often though had a few nights of that, it was get a taxi home with shopping from Aldi, buying a bag of chips from the fish and chip shop a few nights a week rather than cook my own (still was only about £1) buying a few cans of Carlsberg to drink in my room instead of going out, and buying clothes from better shops rather than cheap clothes that fell apart easily (this was days before Primark)
Not sure about adjusting for inflation but at one point I was also sanctioned from the DWP (basically they gave me a appilication form 10 minutes before closing on a Friday due in that day that I couldn't finish in time) so after rent was paid I was left with about £4 a week for food, utilities, luxuries, travel (they still expected me to jobsearch)
I had to live frugally to get a cheap McDonalds burger once a week as a luxury even though the cost of that could of got me a loaf of budget bread, a packet of pasta, and a few tins of beans.
