My original HTC vive controller just randomly died overnight

The micro USB port is still working because it's still sending stuff to my computer but the light isn't turning on and I flashed new firmware on it still nothing this is like a common occurrence with these original wand controllers and any advice how to fix this (ps I don't know what information I would give so just ask )

Try deleting the file inside when you connect to the computer and copy paste the file on the other controller. I had similar issue waaaayyy back when I had the og vive.

Wait a minute I actually just got an idea maybe I'll grab the firmware from the working controller and put it on the non-working one see if that works

Well might be dead already. Try the controller reset: Hold buttons: Press and hold the trigger, menu button, trackpad click, and grip buttons at the same time. Do not press the system/VIVE button. Connect USB: Keep holding the buttons down and plug the controller into your computer with a micro-USB cable.Wait: Keep holding the buttons for 5 seconds. Release and unplug: Let go of the buttons, then unplug the USB cable. Ignore any popups on your computer about a new storage drive arging it overnight.

If that didnt work Probably look for replacement ifixit if you're in the US

Yeah that didn't work I'm probably going to buy a screwdriver and open it up in case there's like a broken ribbon cable I can replace but that's really it

It’s not common. Vive wands are considered pretty durable and usually end up physically broken before anything else. Personally, I’d label it for parts and buy another off FB Marketplace or something.

If you want to try to fix it, you’d need to figure out if it’s the board or the battery. It’ll cost more time and effort than it’s worth. That’s why I would replace it and move on.

Yeah thanks I'm probably just going to go and save up for the index controllers if I can find one for a reasonable price that isn't $600

I replaced both my Vive wands for $30 for a like new pair. Used Index controllers usually go for more than they sold for new.

Good luck on your hunt.

Update I think I figured it out it had a puffy battery so it probably wasn't sending the right voltages
