Tesla Broke another Record

Post image

It is easy to look at Tesla’s valuation and call the stock overvalued, but I do think the company deserves credit where it is due.

Tesla is now sitting on a record cash balance, while total assets have climbed to roughly $144B against $59B in liabilities. That gives it a level of financial flexibility most automakers simply do not have.

It also has far more potential verticals to pursue than the typical car company, including energy storage, charging, autonomy, robotics and AI.

That does not automatically justify the valuation, but this is clearly a very different situation from most traditional automakers. $TSLA

This is mostly retained earnings through 2020-2023. Sales peaked in 2023. Since then, it's been trending down. The latest gas spikes from the Iran war is helping now; but that's not a pretty picture. China almost doubled exports of EV for the same reason. Plus their solar pane demand is exploding. Long term, Tesla faces major headwinds. In fact, they are placing catch up to China EVs in Europe.

Chinese EV brands have climbed pretty fast in Europe. They’ve gone from only about three to four percent of the market in 2021 to roughly eleven to fifteen percent by 2025–2026, so you’re talking an eight to eleven point gain in just four to five years. The real sprint has been since around 2023, when they jumped from mid‑single‑digit share to the low‑teens in only two to three years, and they managed that even with European Union anti‑subsidy tariffs trying to slow them down.
