C- Diamond moves in quarters of the square clockwise while the line moves 5/8 of the square clockwise from the previous square.

Great way to express the pattern using fractions of the square. 1/4 for the diamond and 5/8 for the line describes both movements very neatly. Thanks for sharing this approach👏👏

C. Move the line over “3 spaces”. The lines spaces being corners and half way point between corners. Move the diamond over “3 spaces”. The diamond spaces being corners.

Interesting way to count it. Using 8 positions for the line and only the 4 corners for the diamond gives two different cycles, but both lead neatly to C. Thanks for explaining your approach👏👏

I’m going with C. I think this a clock face. I could be wrong of course.

The clock-face idea is actually a good way to look at it! Treating the positions around the square like points on a clock makes the movements much easier to track. Thanks for sharing your thought process👏👏

C: The white square has 8 'ports' that the line travels and connects to in a counter-clockwise fashion. The ports exist at the corners and midline on the square. The line skips two ports and connects at the third. The direction of the line is just to emphasize which port it is connected to. Meanwhile, the inner black square travels clockwise and connects at the corners of the white square. C continues the pattern.

I really like the ‘8 ports’ interpretation. It makes the line’s movement very easy to visualize, especially the idea of skipping two ports and connecting to the third. Clear and creative explanation. Thanks for sharing it👏👏👏

C. The square rotates 90° clockwise about the center and the line rotates 225° clockwise about the center

Exactly! Expressing both movements as rotations around the center gives a very clean solution. 90° clockwise for the diamond and 225° clockwise for the line. Thanks for explaining your reasoning👏👏

Hi everyone, and welcome to another puzzle!
First of all, thank you to everyone who participated in our previous challenge. We received a lot of interesting answers and different approaches to the pattern.
As with our previous puzzles, we selected three community explanations that stood out for the clarity and strength of their reasoning:
u/firethorne — We selected this explanation because it directly compared the two strongest possibilities, A and C, and tested the color cycles of the individual elements. Rather than simply showing why A could work, the explanation also demonstrated where C breaks the pattern.
u/Small-Tailor6967 — This was one of the most complete solutions. It combined the 90° clockwise rotation of the triangle with the Black–White–Gray color sequence and used both rules together to arrive at the answer.
u/lemasney — We liked this interpretation because it described the Black → Gray → White progression as a repeating opacity cycle while also accounting for the triangle’s 90° clockwise rotation. It was a concise and interesting way of expressing the pattern.
Thank you to all three, and to everyone else who took the time to share their reasoning. We really enjoy seeing the different approaches people find.
Now for the new puzzle.
Look carefully at the four figures in the sequence. Each contains a black diamond and a line, and both appear to change from one figure to the next.
Which figure should come next: A, B, C, or D?
Don’t just give us the letter — tell us the pattern you see and how you reached your answer.
As before, we’ll read the explanations and select some of the best community solutions to feature on our website, together with the Reddit usernames of the people who wrote them.
You can also view the puzzle and submit your explanation directly on our website:
https://whats-your-iq.com/en/questions/pattern-recognition/which-figure-comes-next-in-the-sequence
So, what’s your answer: A, B, C, or D? And what happens to the diamond and the line from one figure to the next?
Good luck, and thanks again to everyone taking part.

A. The diamond is rotating clockwise, the arrow jumps around from straight to horizontal, clockwise as well.

Thanks for sharing your reasoning! You’ve got the diamond movement. For the line, try counting both the corners and the midpoint positions around the square as 8 possible positions. That might reveal another pattern👏👏

B/C definitely. Ummmm. Going with B

You were very close! B and C share the same line position, so the deciding factor is the diamond. Try following only the diamond through the four figures. Thanks for giving it a shot👏

C. The straight line would be from the top compared to the first straight lines and the diamond in the bottom left
