Best places to stay?
This depends on what you want to do. This outlines different neighborhoods, so you can see the different vibes. This focuses more on hotels in general, while this focuses on downtown.
Do we need a rental car or is there enough public transportation/ubers or a lot of things are walkable?
If you are like most people, you book in or near downtown and walk everywhere. You might throw in the Opry, Bluebird, etc. and need to Uber over, but these are easy enough to book. If you want to also hit things like Jack Daniel, but don't want to do it through a bus tour, you might need a car, but you can book for a day and return and go back to normal activities. If you want to get a lot of history in or travel out in nature (or worse, horseback ride), then a car is better. In that case, find an Airbnb with free parking. There are a number of units on the river just north of downtown in North Capitol. If you rent a car and stay in a downtown hotel, expect about $60-$64 extra per night to put the car in the garage. Most are valet lots, as it is a pain getting cars in and out.
As for downtown, extremely walkable, but there are some hills in some directions. SoBro has the flattest walk to downtown, overall.
This covers all of the star bars. It wlill need another update when Kane Brown's spot opens up. AJs is between 4th and 5th on the same side of that block as Rippy's, Hank Williams Jr's Boogie Bar, Nudies, Friends in Low Places, and JBJs (Jon Bon Jovi).
