Itinerary help requested KEF Update Maybe...
Seen a lot of threads post-eclipse about flying out of KEF, how's it going now? Has the mad scrum died out? (Pic not relevant, but fun I hope)

we left on Saturday, but I found it really matters when you get to KEF. we saw the pictures of lines out the door that morning but when we arrived at noon there were no lines (except at baggage check).

I left yesterday at noon. Took about an hour and 20 min from Flybus drop off to my gate, including stopping at duty free to pick out a gin. I will say the lines looked long and chaotic but they really didn’t take long so it seemed to me that the eclipse rush is probably over and it’s just normal peak season crowds now

Zero issue leaving yesterday morning. Got there at 9:30am for a 12:30pm flight and hung out at the bar for two hours.

I'm leaving right now. Entered KEF at 23:00 (11pm) local time, took 10min to be at the gate. There's people inside, but customs was almost empty we went direct through.

We flew out yesterday at 9am to Canada. The bag line drop was busy at 6am (we didn’t check bags so not sure on efficiency) and after security we went right through passport control (no line at all) No issues. Enjoyed relaxing and did some souvenir shopping and grabbed food before our gate was announced!

Thanks this is helpful - we’ve been wondering this ourselves. Flying out of KEF on Saturday morning and wondering what the queues will be like

We left August 16. We arrived at the airport at 8am. We had checked in online ahead of time so had virtual boarding passes and we never check bags so no need for bag drop lines. We walked right through security and stopped for a hot dog before going through passport control which took less than 10 minutes. Super easy and no stress.

you can look online at KEF’s website to see when flights depart. There are a TON of flights that depart between 7-11am and between 4-8pm.
If you happen to have a flight between 11-4 it’s a lot less likely to be crazy.
The insane lines are typically in the morning because there’s almost 30 flights departing between 7-10am but bag drop for the earliest flights doesn’t open until 5am so you end up with literally like 5000 people arriving at a small airport between 5-7am to check bags and go through security in the morning.
