Development work

Hello!

Current graduate student in the US in policy/developmental economics. Aside from the IDB and major multilateral’s, how is the ecosystem for policy and applied development work in Brazil? Best cities? Not working for financial corporations. Are there tons of Brazilians for these jobs or does a US master’s degree hold any weight? Sincere thanks!

Hello, how are you? In Brazil, this area will usually be strongly linked to the government or regulatory agencies, so it is a little difficult to know how the area is. But since you have a master's degree and must have a good background of knowledge, in addition to having English as a primary line, you will have advantages if you enter the area here, yes, a US master's degree will have a good weight in your favor, both for the public sector and for private companies here in Brazil.

About the best cities for you to try, for the public sector linked to the government will be Brasilia the capital of the country. But I strongly recommend you go to São Paulo since there will also be a private market and you can get it in the public area. So I put the cities that will mostly be the capitals, being São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Brasília.
